Default How long does it take silicone to fully cure?

I used a good amount of silicone to seal corners and what not in my cage. how long does it take to cure fully? I had always thought a couple of days at the most. after 4 days I put my RHP in and let it heat up the cage, and after a couple hours I noticed the silicone smells extremely strong. I used aquarium silicone, is the a common problem?

by introducing the RHP and increasing the temp, you caused the off-gassing rate to increase. it may take as much as a week or two to get to the point that it no longer off-gasses.

Yeah, unfortunately, it'll stink for a while.

Shouldn't be harmful though. But it is annoying.

Whenever in doubt, use precaution. While it may not hurt your snake, if you have another place to house your snake for a couple of weeks, I would probably do that just to be safe. I am an overly paranoid person when it comes to things like that.

Have all of you encountered the same problem as the OP?

I didn't have that problem I also put fans inside for a rapid cool down. Its not the RHP? Or the wire that supplies it with electricity? That's heating up and creating an odor? Just saying

yes, i had that same problem, but you know now that you mention it, it could also be the RHP. i've heard that they can off-gas initially.

It very well may be the RHP. because I turned off the RHP and let some air flow through the cage, and it did not smell anywhere near as strong as with the RHP on. And even with it on, 84* should not be hot enough to be a catalyst to cause such strong off gassing. it just doesnt seem plausible the more I think about it. So I believe that the RHP's may actually need to off-gas contrary to what they say on the site

I would just put the RHP somewhere safe in your restroom and let it heat up a bit. The wire from the heat panel may be heating up and producing that odor. I have issues though as soon as I smell something I go to the source and sniff it to see what exactly is causing the odor
