      Default 2016/2017 Breeding Season

After letting everyone get settled in Snaketown II I decided to get the breeding season underway.

Molly ('09 DH Ivory Ghost) x Apollo ('14 Aby Hypo pos Anery)

Candy ('11 Pastel Albino) x Grimes ('13 Hypo Motley pos het Albino, Lovell line)

I introduced them about a week ago and already noticed some courting between Molly/Apollo. Molly is already proven but this is Apollo's first breeding season so I was happy to see them "hit it off". Nothing really happening with Candy/Grimes, I tried with them last season and didn't have any luck either. I'm going to give them a few more weeks and hope they start showing some interest.

I checked on them tonight and it looks like Grimes is finally showing some interest. Yay! Here's hoping I get two successful litters!

I separated both pairs over the last week to feed them. The previous week while I was feeding everyone else Candy went into super food mode and actually attacked an wrapped around Grimes. I was able to break them apart pretty easily and separated them after that. First time that's ever happened to me but I've heard of it happening to others. I wish I had a separate room I could keep my breeding pairs so they wouldn't get all stirred up by the smell of rats.

Pretty sure I saw Molly ovulate last week. It's hard to tell with her because she doesn't swell up much. The last time I bred her I actually thought she wasn't gravid because I she never really swelled up and when I counted the days after what I thought might be her POS she was way off. She gave birth about a month after I thought was her due date. She's a tricky one. They were a very active mating pair from the start though so I'm hoping she's gravid and will treat her accordingly. No idea about the Candy/Grimes pairing. It took a little longer before I saw any tail wrapping, I actually put the shed of another male in the cage with them and that seemed to get Grimes more interested. I'm debating if I'm going to put Grimes back in with her for another week now that they've been fed. I haven't seen her swell up at all but she tends to hide a lot in the cage and I've been leaving her alone so it'd be pretty easy to miss.

Well Molly definitely swelled up over the last few days. Yay! I ended up putting the male back in with Candy and I'll monitor them for the next few days. He seems to still be interested in courting her...or maybe he just wants cuddles, lol.

Molly was on the move yesterday and gradually heaved herself up onto the shelf. I don't even try to guess her due date since she doesn't do a POS. She should pop out the babies anytime between now and end of April, lol.

Pretty sure Candy isn't gravid although I'm still treating her like she is. I'm pretty bummed about it since the male was the one who decided to go on an adventure last month and hasn't returned. I'm hoping to be surprised and come down one day to find some babies.

I had to go on a business trip the last few days and I thought for sure I was going to come back to some cute little boa babies. Molly has barely moved the last month and the day before I left (last Sunday) she was moving all around her cage. Came back to her back in her hide and no babies. Darn it.

I'm also back to thinking Candy didn't take, I think it's hard to tell with albinos sometimes but if she's gravid it's a super small litter. But at this point I'm 95% certain I'm not going to get anything out of her. Oh well, maybe next season.

Aaannnddddd....still no babies. Molly hasn't left her hide box in over a week but occasionally sticks her head out. I really need to clean her cage again too but I hate moving them around when they're so close to having their babies. Although the general rule seems to be that as soon as I clean their cages they make a mess in the cage so maybe this will convince her to have her freaking babies.

Nope! I keep thinking well maybe she's not gravid...then I look at her and she definitely looks gravid, lol. About 5 days ago she roamed up and down her cage all night. I fed two days ago and she didn't come out of hiding to beg for food like she normally does and last night she was roaming around her cage all night again. I'm hoping she's close but I've given up trying to predict it. I'm guessing the swelling I saw in December was her pre-ovulation swell and she had a slow, long ovulation after that. I'm actually looking forward to next season because I'm hoping the two females I breed stick to the standard breeding/gravid timeline. Having a POS to base a due date off of would be nice, lol.

Declaring this a fake pregnancy, lol. Despite her swelling during the breeding period and her moodiness and body size thereafter she hasn't popped yet. I'd give her crap for it but seeing how I've, ahem, put on a few pounds as I've gotten older I think I'll give her a pass.

I will likely try breeding her again this upcoming season, probably try the same pairing again.
