Default After 19 years, a new member of the famliy...

It's been a long time since we had a scaled creature join our family, but tomorrow one will be joining us. I've been wanting to own a Suriname for a long time now and finally pulled the trigger. I need to get a few things in place (purchase mice, bedding, etc), but more than ready for her to arrive. Now the hard part... naming her. My 8yo son wants to name her "Stella". Not sure where he came up with her, but I kinda like it.

Maybe from this? LOL! There was also a 1990 movie called Stella w/ Bette Midler, or maybe he's mispronouncing "stellar"? Either way, your Stella looks great!

Thanks for all of the congratz. I think our neighbor's dog is named Stella. If that's the case I'll be picking something different. Lol. Yeah, those kind of neighbors...

Why? Do you think your boa will come when they call their dog? (giggling...)

Lol. No, the kind of neighbors that will take all the credit for the name and their heads will enlarge to the point of exploding.

Maybe you should name the snake Samsung (like the exploding washers etc)...it will remind you to laugh at them but they'll never know.

Here's a few recent pics of the little sweetie. She's getting pretty use to being handled and doesn't hiss as often when getting her out of the enclosure (boy can she hiss loud!). Once in my hands she's been great. She was 21" when I got her and has grown about an inch per month since eating every 8-10 days. I hope to pick up a male Suri later this year and if everything goes well breed them in 4-5 years. I've never bred boas, so I'm hoping a few years of research will help.

UPDATE on my male BCI... He's doing better and starting to put on some weight. There was a span where he was taking an XL rat about every 2-3 weeks. He's in shed now so hopefully he'll take one after the shed. April marks 20 years since I bought him. Such a super nice snake.

She's so nice just love her bat markings down her back and she's nice and pink, glad she's settling in so well,it's unbelievable how such a little snake can make such a hiss I've got one that's only hissy when in shed and amazingly friendly when not

She's looking good! Also glad to hear about your older boa doing good. It's awesome to have a snake for that long, hope he continues to do well!

When I first put her in her current setup (10 gallon) tank I covered the tank up with a towel because I didn't want her striking and hitting the glass. As I was walking her downstairs I heard this really loud noise that I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It was her! I still can't believe it.

Once she gets a little size to her I'll be moving her out of the 10 gal (I heard baby boas don't like open spaces, so the 10 gal with a small hide should be good for now) into a larger enclosure. I might put a divider in my large cage or I might just make two new ones. Haven't decided yet.

Thanks. I was worried for a while. He went 15 months without eating. Still don't know why but he's slowly putting the weight back on.

Little "Suri" is a little over a year now. She grew about 12" since I got her. Really sweet girl. Here's a few recent pics. Still looking for a boyfriend for her. Surinames aren't easy to come by...

Thanks. The old boy is on another hunger strike. It's been 2-3 months since he had a meal. Hopefully he'll start back up soon. Thanks for asking about him.

Crossed fingers worked! He took a rat last night. Hopefully this is the beginning of more regular feeding.
