Default Desired pixel width for picture posting

I've never seen this topic addressed here and I was curious to know what peoples preferences are. I figured a lot of people who peruse this forum probably use widescreen monitors now that they're pretty cheap for a LOT of screen (I've been using a 23" screen for several years now and even when I bought it, it was only $220 and it's REALLY good) and IMO, that makes this a pretty timely poll

In terms of the width of the pictures posted here, what is your preferred number of pixels so that it best fits your monitor and browsing preferences?

      800 pixels wide?

      1000 pixels wide?

      1200 pixels wide?

I'm going to throw up a poll on this to give an easier gauge of what the forum thinks.

Please vote and toss any additional comments in via a reply.

      Thanks!
      jb

EDIT: This forum shrinks pictures down so my pictures didn't display at the proper size and therefore, this is kind of a moot point. That's a shame that this picture size restriction is forced on the forum users

The system will re-size them, but I like at least 1000.

I agree, 1000 is a good sweet spot for most pictures. With some, the focus is off or the clarity is low, etc., and 800 (or less) is better. Conversely, for some, the image is razor sharp and it can and should be shown off at a larger resolution (1600-2000 is really nice!!).

Here's an example of one of mine that I downsized to 2000 pixels wide that I think benefits greatly from viewing it so large. The focus on the eye is DEAD ON! http://www.deviantconstrictors.com/a..._2016-2000.JPG and the details in the scales are just awesome! (after clicking the link and the picture loading - depending on your settings, you may have to click the picture to get it to expand it full size)

But, 1000 is a good "all around" size, IMO.

That is a great pic! You can see every speck of color in the eye!

      I personally like 1024 X 768.

Although it doesn't matter what I prefer because the RTB skin I prefer automatically down sizes all my images to probably 800 pixels across

Oh I see at the very end of your post you make the same observation.

I'm not happy about this either but sadly it has to do with skins and how they are put together
and what happens when an image is too big

There's got to be a workaround for that from a coding perspective. Should be VERY easy to fix. Hey... @ClayEnglish ... is there something we can do about this?

Honestly I actually like it when they shrink it down. I like the entire thread to be uniform as I scroll down and I like that I dont ever have to scroll horizontally to see the rest of the pic. I really like big pictures but I prefer not to scroll side to side just to see everything.

Guess I am a bit of a humbug. LOL

      Hey Jesse,
With the mass adoption of widescreen computer monitors, most people should be able to display a 1000 pixel wide image without having to scroll. On my wife's laptop (17") it will display a 1200 pixel image on this forum without the need to scroll. On my desktop (23"), I could probably pull off a 1600 pixel image without needing to scroll... maybe larger.

So, that was kind of the point of this thread, to find out if there was a large user base here who couldn't display more than an 800 pixel-wide image. Could you fit more? If so, how much more would you estimate?

      Thanks!
      jb

1200 is pretty standard for most and that is a really sexy pic!

Isn't there typically a bar across the top of the image that you can click to choose to display the native resolution? I don't see it here though.....

Hey JB, I vote for which ever one you choose! That seems to always be the best one! The picture is ridiculous, if I could get one shot like that I would quit. Can you come out here to the Left Coast and teach me the way of the lens?
