Trust me if I would have had her from an egg, she would have never been fed live, but I didn't want to stress her out trying to feed her f/t in a new home. So now that she feels at home now is the time to do it. I think I might see if I can get a pre killed like I do with my ball python. The last one she got fell in her flowers and she plucked it out like it was an apple from a tree.lol Maybe I can try that with my feeding tongs that I have. It would help making it look like it was still alive. Hope this will work. My fingers crossed too....

Iíll be very surprised if she donít take it, make sure itís warm as well, and wriggle like itís alive and when she strikes it keep moving with the tongs and she will proper coil round it till she thinks she has killed it

You'd have a very RARE boa indeed! Nearly ALL boas are live born ("neonates") while nearly all pythons hatch from eggs. There are a couple exceptions, but not yours.

Back to the feeding technique (with tongs, not tongue, LOL): a subtle wiggle of the prey is usually more effective than too much motion...the latter scares off some snakes.

That's ok...we forgive ya! I think about (or at least) 2/3 of all snakes are hatched from eggs, they are the majority.

Colubrids are egg-layers (rat snakes, king snakes, etc), while garter snakes & rattlesnakes have live babies. So if you ever see that old joke promising
'rattlesnake eggs' in a container, don't fall for it! No such thing as rattlesnake eggs...unless you are talking about inside the snake, which is where the
live-born babies emerge from their "eggs" and then emerge as "live born".

The only live-bearing snakes I've raised are rosy boas...and I've been right there watching them squirm free from "mom". Fun stuff. You'll also notice
many photos on this site (when our boa breeders post pictures of their successful reproduction) that the pile of baby snakes are slimy, often with their
yolk sac still attached (from which they wriggle free soon enough). That's why there are no egg shells in those pix...

Today is Dutch's feeding day they didn't have any f/t hoppers so they gave me two real small fuzzies. Should I try and feed them both to her or just one. They are smaller then the other ones I gave her before.

I'd feed them both, one at a time...should be fine.

We have success!!! I thawed it out warmed it up and wiggled it a bit on one of her flowers that she was under. She hit it so hard that she pulled it right out of the tongs!!

I was just worried that it would not be warm enough since I can not tell temperature with my hands bc I got frost bit in them when I was little. So, I just used the spot that the nurse would take blood from and it worked wonderful. I had a smile on my face bc I could feel how warm the fuzzy was. Now I don't have to worry again about my sweet Dutch getting hurt by her food!! I also found out that Dutch is two sizes bigger then her siblings bc I took her with me to the reptile store that I get her food from. Also same place I got her from. My baby boa is growing up... I want to thank you for all the support and help that you have been giving me. It is wonderful to know that if I have a problem I can get help pretty quick. Thank you again for all the support and help it means a lot to me!!!

Good thinking, to use the crook of your elbow/inner arm to judge the temperature. (wrist works too)

Not the best idea to take your pet snake to a pet store though...even the one you got her from. They may have gotten mites in the store since you were there last, or
other communicable snake/reptile diseases that she could catch while visiting. While neither is perfectly safe, pet stores are more risky than private breeders because
their animals come from various sources with lots of exposure to others & aren't quarantined. Just something to consider.

It's wonderful to know she's doing so well in your care. I'm not surprised she is out-growing her siblings though, pet stores often under-feed young reptiles so they stay
"small & cute" & don't out-grow their display cages. It was her lucky day when you took her home...
