      Default Enclosure

This is the enclosure that I have for me 5week old she has one hide behind the white flowers on the hot side and one in the left back corner under her thermometer for the cold side a big bowl of water to drink from or go swimming in lol. If you see anything I need to add please let me know. Thank you.

Hello everyone I was told to wait for 3 feedings before holding my baby snake on Friday she will be 6 weeks old. It will also be her third feeding from me. I don't know how to do this because I have never had a baby snake before. My other snake I got when she was an adult. (2 years ) I don't want to stress her out. She is so sweet and I want to hold her so bad! I don't want to do any harm to her. Please help me.

Don't know how to do what? I'm confused....did you mean you don't know how to take a photo without handling her in the process? If you just fed her a third time,
wait until she digests (2 days preferably), then it should be ok. Handling: proceed gradually & watch how she behaves. Don't over-do & try to convey "safety" w/ you.
Don't handle her close to your face, as some snakes are scared of our faces & seem to think we are a big predator about to eat them. You do NOT want a face-bite, as
it could involve your eyes. That's not likely but prevention is better than regret.

What I meant by "convey safety"- snakes don't rely on vision to identify things (including us)...so once they learn our scent & touch, they feel safer when cuddled
close to us rather than held at arms length, because that simulates the cover they'd take in the wild. Being out in the open means being found & eaten by predators.
Those who just "handle" their snakes but do not really cuddle them are the ones who tend to get bit, IMO. I think you'll be fine, you're on the same page already.

And consider that we are confusing creatures: they don't necessarily know that the hand that's holding them is connected to the face that's looking at them...so they
can panic about our faces, until they get used to being gently handled & learn to recognize our touch & scent.

One other thing about handling a new snake: "be the ground" Translation: do your best to keep your hands under the snake, holding gently...not waving around
where they can confuse & scare a snake. As the saying goes, "snakes don't bite the ground they crawl on". This goes back to how easily they can be confused
visually by us...they don't know that one hand is related to our other hand until they can touch & read our scent...a new (nervous) snake can panic & bite that
"other" hand if you move too fast or don't stay "underneath". Does that make sense?

And since you asked, that's one reason some people like to lift their (nervous) snakes up with a hook, & slide their hand underneath...to avoid bites. Most bites occur
when we approach the snake (self defense!) & nearly all bites are preventable by communicating: allow time for the snake to recognize our scent & touch. Don't rush.

To take a photo of her enclosure with her in it shouldn't bother her...when people have taken photos of me with my snakes, even with a flash, they seem pretty oblivious.

Somewhere in all this I hope I answered your question? If not, try again.

Thank you for all the info. She knows my smell thank god! lol I have been putting my hand next to her so she can come over and smell in. I would say it's about 5ins away. She will lift her tiny head and come over but not to close and flicker that little bitty tongue at my hand and then put her head back down. Like I know that smell.

Anytime, you're welcome. It takes time for them to grow, but it sure is fun to watch. And in a few years you'll probably be explaining all this to other new keepers.

If youíre using your smart phone for Tapatalk try deleting the app then try reinstalling it and login again , your little boa will give you so much pleasure watching it grow up from a little neonate to an adult ,just remember sheís one of the dwarfest locality so will only be around 5 ft when adult so is always going to be slimmer than your python too as they get chunky before getting longer,itís the other way found with boas they girth out as they get older ,I would try encourage her to strike from tongues as Noelle said to simulate a more natural feeding response and to save any little nips ,the amount of times mine leap from behind things or off the shelf soon as you slide the glass just like lightening as you have already said and always wash your hands when you been handing the food as they can always smell it on you

I still say using TONGS would be better...it's sorta risky to have a snake taking a rodent off your "tongue" & who knows? you might get hungry & then the snake would starve. ROFL! (posting at 2 a.m also carries risks, lol) But, if you DO feed a snake from your tongue, please, pretty-please, make a video & share your technique?
