Default Snake Throw up

I fed my burmese python last night and came home this morning and the snake aparently threw the rat up. Is this anything to worry about?

Also i need to find a home for this snake because i am moving with my dad and he is only letting me keep two snakes and i am keepin my ball and my corn. So if anyone can take her id apreciate it, im only asking that you pay shipping.

First off, check out this thread.

http://forum.redtailboas.com/index.p...;threadid=4004

I suppose there could be a lot of reasons why a snake would regurge (though I've never had it happen myself). It could be from too cool of a temperature causing it to not digest properly, could be from too warm of a teperature causing the prey item to rot or ferment in the snakes belly, or maybe from handling it too soon after eating. Big thing is to give it's stomach a chance to heal itself. Which means DON"T TRY TO FEED AGAIN FOR A FEW WEEKS. To prevent it from happening again, make sure the temps and humidity are accurate, and give your snake some time for the food to settle before putting it back in its "house" and don't handle it for at least 48 hours after feeding. I hope you find a taker for it. You can put it in the "mempers for sale" forum here, you can put it up in the classifieds at www.kingsnake.com. Heck, maybe you can PM Steve and see if he has any suggestions. Good luck.

For the mites here is what you do:
1) Purchase yourself a large bottle of Reptile Relief (heres what it looks like) http://www.naturalchemistry.com/pet/...p?idproduct=65
2) Take out any sticks/branches/watever that are made out of wood. Soak that ina hot 10% bleach solution for 30 minutes.
3) Remove the substrate (especially if it is bark) and dispose of it.
4) Spray the tank down with Reptile Relief, make sure to get all the nooks and crannies. (the suckers can hide) Let it soak for a while then wipe it out and let it air.
5) After you've let it air for approx. 30 mins to an hour you can put paper towels down for substrate.Remove the branches and such from the bleach sloution also. Do not put them back in the tank untill mites are definetely gone.
6)Get a damp paper towel (not wet, DAMP) and spray it down with reptile relief. Then wipe your entire snakes body in a stroking motion. Repeat until entire body has been done. Don't forget under the chin, the mites love it there.
Do #s 4 and 6 every day until mites are DEFINETELY gone.

Its a strenuous process but it works and is worth it. Ask me if you have any further questions. I will respond same day.

No she aint albino.. but thanks mucho for the help.. i used the crap the vet gave me yesterday and there are more mites than ever on her now.. i guess you should never drive an hour and a half to downtown houston to take a snake to the vet.. even though they were some of the only people in the phone book who treated snakes..

What did the vet give you for the mites?
Many things cancause a regurge, adding to what has been said already (too cold, too hot, handling..) internal parasites, neurological issues, virul infections, food way too big and stressing the stomach..
The most common causes are internal parasites and handling too soon after eating.
Since you didn't say that it had swollen up (the snake) and in conjunction with the mites, that it may have moved itself way too much and upset its' own tummy while trying to rub the mites off.
The reason you saw many more after using the stuff the vet gave you, is most likely due to the two week life cycle and eggs that hatched. Quite possibly, the stuff you were given has no effect on te mites eggs, allowing them to hatch.

Now onto the difference between a regurge and a throw up (vomit).
A regurge is from the stomach itself, and will have pretty much a lot of whole food parts, possibly a shriveled up darker looking end.
A vomit, is almost always all liquid and is actually from past the stomache itself, in the intestines, where absorbtion of the liquified foods nutrients, is taking place.

I don't want to get too deeply on the mites just yet, untill after what the vet gave you is posted.
No need for interreactions from other treatment methods

Ivercide..
A cream form of ivermectin, which does work on snake mites, BUT some caution needs to be used, depending on the species and if you have anything like bugs as pets, or feeder bugs for any other critter..

I am curious, how were you told to administer the med?

He told me to get a gallon of water.. and mix a little water into the medicine.. then pour the medicine in the gallon of water and put it in a spray bottle and spray the snake and its cage.

Sorry it took me a while to get back.. Holidays wrapped with bad bugs have us all down here now...

Anyways, yes, ivermectin IS a good remedy for mites as long as it is used properly.

Mixed with water, in a spray bottle and several times a day , as well as soaks in a tub to get as many mites you see, off the snake.
This treatment may take a while, but is relatively safe for the snake.
Just keep it away from the heat pits and mouth when spraying and do not forget that mites typically have a two week life cycle (new wave as eggs hatch).

If you have any bug pets or any feeder bugs for any other animals, or (most likely not ) pit vipers, ivermectin is deadly for them, so use caution when actually spraying.
