Thread: Great Dane Puppy

I know I just posted a thread about my new puppy a couple weeks ago, but I wanted to start a new one with a more descriptive title as a place to keep a record of his growth. Anyway, here is one of the first pictures I posted.



This is him today; two weeks later. I don't know if you can tell, but he's about twice the size he was in the first pictures.



My daughter(Ireland) loves him:



I was playing with some settings on my camera and I like this shot. I was using a tripod and had the camera set to stay open for a long time (insert camera nerd techno-babble here) and Ireland chose that moment to run up and give him a kiss.



I'm surprised how blurry some of these shots came out even though I was using a tripod.




I love this dog. I had been planning on getting a Great Dane for years (since before Ireland was born) and I'm glad I waited and finally got exactly the dog I wanted. I think he is going to fit in perfectly around here.

The other day Ireland was saying that we messed up; she wanted a BIG puppy. I just laughed. Wait a bit sweetie....


That's it. I promise from now on I will not post pictures anymore frequently than once a month lol.

Ummmm you can post pictures everyday if you would like. We are all cool with that Josh!!! Very beautiful puppy and your daughter will be shocked soon enough when the dog is bigger than her.

That's a beautiful Dane pup bro and he has grown since the last post. Keep those pics coming bro they don't bother me one bit at all. I have been waiting for my sister in law to send me some updated pics of Avalanche our dane but she hasn't got back to me... so I took some pics with my black berry of two pics I had of him at 6 months they are blurry and crappy but at least you will have an idea how he looks like and how big he is. These dogs grow by the second!!! That pic with your daughter is very cool too!

@Bo@Bot Yes, those are truly crappy pictures but he is a monster! It's cool that you got the ears to stand so quickly/so well. Like most people, I was originally attracted to the breed - when I was really young - because of how they look, and a big part of the traditional "Dane look" comes from the cropped ears. I didn't realize until much later that those pointy ears 1.) are man-made and 2.) are a lot of work and easy to mess up. I ultimately decided against getting his ears cropped. In order of importance, my reasons were:

1.) Too much work to keep the ears taped. (or I'm too lazy)

2.) Even with an experienced Vet to do the procedure, there is still a chance they won't stand anyway.

3.) Even though it is a fairly routine procedure, I couldn't justify doing it for purely cosmetic reasons.

4.) I figured I wouldn't like having my head all taped up for 6 months to a year so probably the puppy would hate it too.

But, even with all those very logical reasons it was a close decision. And my only reason to crop?

1.) Because it looks cool.

So I'm not condemning anyone that does choose to crop.

Yeah I agree about the ear cropping I was against it.... but it is actually my wife's dog (we agreed that she would be ultimately responsible for all the care and WORK that owning a dog demands)and she wanted them cropped. You don't know how difficult it was to get his ears to stand like that... there was a point in which she thought they were not even going to stand. She actually learned how to tape the ears herself and managed to get the ears to stand. It was frustrating no doubt. I would recomend against cropping the ears and although people do it mainly for cosmetic purposes, cropping ears especially on guard dogs allows them to hear a lot better.

I'm glad you got your dane. Just wait till that baby is a teenager dog. The are super destructo dogs. I love 'em!

My wife and I are planning on getting a Great Dane when it fits our family. Right now it does not. Maybe in a few years I'll be making a similar post haha.

Josh, post pictures all you like, I LOVE Danes and yours is a really great looking pup!

Literally, he was born 75 days ago - February 15th to today, April 30th. I hope their aren't as many math nerds on this forum as there are word-nerds.

I took him to the Vet today for his vaccine booster. He weighed 24.5 lbs. He's almost doubled in weight in the four weeks since we took him for his initial exam. (12.6 lbs.)

Just had to put a pic of Lou, our Dane. Hes turning 8 in Oct.
