Default Pet Shop Boa Advice

This is Mike Lynch 's post:

Yikes! Poor thing!

For the eyes: looks like retained eye caps and possible a build-up of fluid underneath. He needs to go to a vet to have that assessed and treated (if possible).

Is that wound on his nose still healing? The coloration looks bad. Looks like there's necrotic tissue in there.

I'd say he should go to a vet and be thoroughly checked out. If he's got retained eye caps, and they are that bad, chances are he was neglected in other ways too.

I forget w posted the rest:
Someone Here:
Poor thing. And I wish you luck. Keep us apprised of his situation.

Someone Here:
WTF???? that was in a PET SHOP??? were they trying to sell it?? It don't look like eyecaps. It looks like it's in shed right now... You should open a new thread on this because the advice you are looking for won't be discovered in my thread.

Someone else Here:
POOR THING, I think that petshop should be reported.

wow he looks bad hope hes not hurting. anyway hopfully you can give him a better life. he does look like he is in shed the eyecaps blue and some of the black on his sides looks a little blue too. keep him sprayed down till he can shed so its easier. keep humidity at 50 - 60 % make sure the ecaps come off after shedding. Or shall i say check the skin to make sure they came off. definatly have a vet check him out maybe theres more needing to be done. Good luck.

By the underbelly + the eyes it looks to be in shed to me, I don't know about retained caps though.

As for the scarring I'm trying to figure out what may of caused it to the extend it actually goes to. I wouldn't think noserub was the cause asI have a boa that had some seriously severe nose rub and it doesn't look near that bad. Looks like something acidic was on there or someone scrubbed the skin straight off.

I'd be very worried about breathing. One of the nostrils on my nose rub boa seems to be useless, and both of this ones looks very bad.

that snake seriously needs to see a vet.

First: Bryan I apologize I accidentally hit the minus button after "Did you find this post helpful?" indicating that your post wasn't helpful. That was an accident, my friend and was totally unintentional. I was trying to hit the "Thank You" button and had a compete brain fart. I'm sorry.

As for the damage on the nose: It looks like a rat bit to me. Even if his eye caps are fine I think he should still be taken to a vet fro a complete examination to make sure he's OK. His wounds look pretty extensive.

Things happen

I was also thinking of a rat bite but that is just so large of an area it would of had to seriously went to town with a lot of multiple bites -- of course, it could of got infected also to do that kind of damage, and we couldn't really verify just how many times it may have been bitten. Live feed was probably definitly used just by the shape its in (I don't think they would care enough to use f/t or prekilled by the condition it's in...)

I just feel so bad for that snake. I have seen some stuff at pet shops before but generally nothing over some bad shed, mouth rot, and nose rub... I would probably report these guys too.
