Default Radient heat???

Hey All,

I went ahead with the 421D(expandable) from Jeff's site, i got it with the radient heat option (he said it was best since the room is pretty cold 64-70)

My question is... I keep reading about UTH and should i also add an UTH, or get some flex-watt tape. Will the radient heat be enough assuming i have a thermostat set at 85 or so?
I also have a human heating pad i could use with the radient heat... ur thoughts???
I have time (tank doesn't arrive for couple weeks)

thanks!

I would have it all set up and going for a day or two, to see what happens. The RHP might make the floor warm enough. What type of substrate are you planning on using?

Otherwise, you can go with any of the options. You can use the human heat pad for a bit, or for awhile. Once I get my bigger tanks, I am going to get flex watt. Its the cheapest and smallest. LOL

So, if it were me, I would put the hhp on the cool side, set on low. Just make sure it isnt going to get too hot.

The substrate i will be using at first will be newspaper...Until i can pick up either forest floor or aspen...What bout you?

I was under the impression that the radient heat is installed on the top. which could necessitate the human heating pad on bottom, is that true or do some radients get installed on side, bottom???

thanks again!

Jeff installs the radiant heat on top - I just asked him the same question as I was unfamiliar with the product. He also recommended it to me as I will be putting my Boaphile in a 72 degree room but diagonal against 2 outside walls.

Hey snakesnsports,

Well, it all depends on the climate of your house or room you plan on placing your enclosure. You'll have to do some testing with what you have before you make a decision to get a UTH. If you do decide you need a UTH, make sure it's hooked up to a thermostat or rheostat and that the UTH combined with the RHP will not overexceed the correct temps for your boa.

Correct temps for hot side is 89-92 and cool side 78-82. There is a good variable to work with so when you do get set up, see if your temps are within the correct temps and give it a couple hours to stabilize before going with another heat source.
