What are the differences between Flexwatt and Ultratherm UTHs? What are the pros and cons of each? Does one heat better than the other? Or is it just personal preference?

The advantage of flexwatt is the flexability (lol! No, not literally. OK, well sort of. But they're both flexable in that sense. I digress...). You can do whatever length you need, and have 4 different widths and even more wattages to choose from. It's also a bit cheaper. The down-side is that it needs to be wired by you, although this is not a problem for many people, and some vendors will wire it for you if you ask.

Ultratherm, while a bit more expensive, is sealed (i.e. water-tight), and comes prewired. Down-side: limited lengths.

There may be more, as I have not personally used ultratherm, but those are some general ones I came across when I was deciding between the two a while back.

I went with flexwatt

Depends on what you are heating. I have used both. For a rack, flexwatt. For a cage,I much prefer Ultratherms. Even better then that is radiant heat panels. What are you heating?

I'm looking at my options for down the road when I have to upgrade my snakes' living quarters. So I'm looking at heating large plastic reptile cages: Boaphile, Pro-Line, Animal Plastics, and the like.

Personally I would go with the Flexwatt. More choices as far as uses and sizes. Also, I have noticed that the Ultratherms I have seem to take longer to heat up and aren't as efficient as the Flexwatt.

It all depends on what you heat. For cages I think it is safer with ultratherms. I have gotten zapped by the heat tape. The end clips can fall off and expose the contacts. The ultratherms are totaly sealed.

Liquid electrical tape works great!

You can sometimes find it at Home Depot or Lowes as well. Also, RTV sealant will work.
