Hi new to the forum, but im on a couple others. I have a question reguarding my colombian rainbow boa.

I have a spare 55 gallon tank that is just sitting staring at me begging for me to make something out of it, now that my colombian rainbow is getting a little larger i dont think he'd mind a bigger tank. NOw my question is I was thinking about putting a pump and running water on one side of the tank about 2-3 inches deep and having a gradiant slant running into the water.

Now two things pop into my mind.. 1) Would the snake even like this?
and 2)Would i have to worry about anything?

My plan was to have 75% of the tank land, trees and hides, and about 15-25% of the tank a running water "river". Any input would be nice, sorry for the jumbled thoughts Ive been up for quite awhile now i work 3rd shift and havent gotten any sleep.

Thanks!

Josh

First, I'd like to introduce myself and of course my new and first, gorgeous boy Brute. I rescued him from a family (about a month and a half ago) that was keeping him in an acrylic cage that was about two feet long, 1 foot wide and three free tall. Not nearly enough room for his five foot length.

I am currently housing him in a 40 gallon breeder until I can get into town for something bigger but it's still a thousand times better than what he was in before.

When I got him, they were feeding him two large rats every two weeks and after discussing this with a few people we have cut him back to one however, this last time we tried to feed him he completely refused. I realize once is nothing to worry about however he now seems to want to do nothing but hide and has starting burrowing under his reptile carpeting. I guess I just want to know if this is something I should be concerned about or if this is normal.

I am probably over reacting, he's the first snake I've ever owned but I love having him. He's only struck at me once (the first night) other than that he's totally chill and I just want to do what right by him. Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

my girl lilith hasn't ate in 9 weeks. a few days ago i noticed her eyes sunk in from dehydration. she'll drink when i offer it to her in a cup but as far as drinking from her dish she doesnt do it. she's looking better since she drank. but she's starting to scare me.

ive tried leaving f/t rat pups over night, live feedings with large mice, and rat pups. she's loosing weight and it's starting to look like her scales are just hung on her. i know etb's can go months w/o eating but are they supposed to look like a meth addict while fasting?

ambient air temp is 86.4 degrees 78 at night
basking spot is 91 degrees and turned off at night
humidity is 70 - 90% (hard to keep steady w/o a fogger i've just ordered one so maybe when it gets in...)

this is my 1st etb and she seems to be a comfortable snake. as of today she's alert and back to her self. but still looks a little dehydrated. how long with out eating should i really start to get worried?

i need some help my 7 1/2 foot female boa has gone evil and i don't blame her i had to leave the country for almost two months and had a cousin feed my reptiles and dogs i also told him he had to handle the boa at least a couple times a week. he held her no prob when i was here but when i got home a week ago she was snapping at her cage she was do that day to feed so i fed her and she still strikes the glass when i walk by she wont let me pick her up either. i asked my cuz if he fed and handled her he said he fed on schedule but he was to afraid to handle her with out me here i wish he told me that before i left i would have found someone else. shes about 3 years old i had her for a little over a year shes always been very tame she wasn't head shy at all never showed any aggression whats so ever. when i got her i wasn't planning on getting a snake but i was at a house buying a couch and noticed a seven foot snake in a 20 gal Tupperware tub with just a light over it i asked the guy if she just fed he said no that was her home so i offered him $100 for her and i took her she wasn't even aggressive after that i built her a huge encloser that i could live in comfortably she was about to shed when i got her but it was coming off in pieces because he didn't keep the humid right so i gave her a bath with no problems she hissed a little when i pulled the skin around her head but nothing else. so my question is what could have got her to turn and how can i re tame her with the least amount of scars, its not the bite that scares me i think its the motion. my cuz also didn't give her the frozzen thawed i left for him he was giving her live, before i got her the other guy was giving her both so i don't think that's the prob shes also been sitting in her own filth im going to get a snake hook after im done with this post to clean the cage also shes do again for a rat i feed her once a week. i just don't know what to do from here any suggestions?

And what temps does the heating I chose get to?

On the thermostat, completely worth the $, or get it aftermarket?

The incandescent and florescent lighting, opinions? does the bulb come with a cover?

If anyone knows answers that may help me that would be a great help. Thanks in advance

FedEx was just here and excitement over a brand new baby boa quickly turned to shock, dismay and anger. I was confused initially b/c the return address on the box said "Big Cheese Rodent Factory"...which I have never ordered from. No where on the box did it say "This Side Up" or "Caution: Live Harmless Animal"...nothing. Just a plain brown box. I open the box, expecting to see another box. Nope...just some crumpled up paper towels. And what is in the middle of the towels? A sock with a knot in it. Inside the sock was the baby boa...who was clinging to the one small piece of paper towel that was in with him.

Needless to say at that point I was interested only in getting him into his new cage where he could warm up. But I'm shocked. Here I thought I was dealing with a professional...and this is how he ships his snake? Really? And this is the guy I asked about in another thread and a couple of people said good things about him so I felt fairly safe. I had asked for a feed/shed record and needless to say that was not included. At this point I'm not sure I can email the seller and be polite so the little guy may just need to start fresh.

The snake, by the way, at this moment does not look nearly as bright as the pictures I saw...but I'm hoping he's just darkened up from the stress of shipping. If it turns out that he's not even as colorful as he was represented to be then I'll be really mad.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics coming later. Need to get to work and want to let the little guy warm up.

Just wanted some opinions on hides, I use them but i know some people that dont and say that they are un-necessary. Kind of a silly question but would love some feed back.

Food I got no problem he ate good now but u just touch tank and WOW alert and ready for dinner that only interaction they had with him. So I have changed food to rat and not in home an not live but need to handle snake but this first boa i have Pythons and just want to do right for least amount of stress and I want to not get bit. Never has hissed but I just try to open lid and never seen such actions out of any snake. It not coiling just head go straight up and on me. If maybe food thing an outside tank it does fine switching entire enclosure can help that right?
I use repti bark now I am wondering as far as heating goes should I move a good area of the bark away so there is just glass so he can get warm faster? Or 1 inch and the bark is barley warm or half inch quater or just enough to cover or what. Not really sure what to do the repti bark confuses me how the tempature works with bark over it. looking forward to hearing what you guys say!
