The first 3 are her curled up on her hot spot the other day... and the last 3 I took today... She was glaring at me hardcore.... I don't think she was happy about me poking around o.o haha

Huggin' the heat...

What are YOU doing in MY cage????

I WILL KEEEL YOOU!!

Here you can kinda see her chunkiness better... She looks bigger in person though O.O I can only do so much with the cam without risking a VERY nasty chomp o.o

Now she was starting to get annoyed... and I don't know if you can tell in this pic or not, but she's getting really swollen down near her vent more now then she was before... I'm anxious!!! c'mon girl!

If anybody can remember I was having some trouble getting my female sunglow and my male motley het albino to breed back in april.

Well I separated them for 3 months and reintroduced them and also put in one of my much smaller males in overnight. That got the motley male going and he started courting her.

They were going at it from late June till sept 3. All the while the female was getting odd bumps that I attributed to pre ovulation (she has been refusing food since the second week of courting).

Then on sept 4th I came home from work and saw what I thought was an ovulation, she was pretty swollen, not huge but bigger than usual and it was gone within 30 minutes. I also have not seen any courting since then.

Now for my question.

How can I be sure that the males job is done? He seems to have no interest in her but I don't want to remove to early. I want him out ASAP so I can clean her cage, put in aspen and try to get a small meal into the female.

Also I am not sure she is gravid, she has a bump in her, it is a swelling that is bigger than if she had eaten a large meal. The swelling is higher than I would think it should be, just past the halfway point in her body, but it hasn't changed in two days.

The center of the swelling is in the center of the pic. She is between 6.5-7 feet and she hasn't eaten for about 6 weeks. She is also warmer than normal, between 85-87 according to my cheap temp gun up from 79-81 that she normally is. Gun may be inaccurate but the difference probably is accurate.

Has anyone on here any experience of that? or is it just said to sell low expression Jungles?

Cheers

Ok... I might sound crazy... lol... But I know human females have Braxton Hicks contractions... "practice contractions" for those who don't know the BH term...

Well.... Do gravid females do this as well? Have like pre birth contractions?

I ask because, as most of you know, my Bolivian female is gravid and is due to drop in the next few weeks... Well... While we were cleaning cages last night we were watching her and her belly looks lower, kind of like she "dropped" to her lower half and she was having slight lower body twinges that almost resemble, to me at least, Braxton Hicks contractions... I was here for the hypo and normal litter from my buddy's female and they are deff. not like those contractions, but very slight...

Sorry if this is a strange question, lol... I'm just wondering, because I know, being preggo myself, that I have braxton hicks contractions which mean the uterus is gearing up for labor... If anyone can give a little insight on this it would be much appreciated :D lol

oh, and yes there will be plenty of pics when she does decide to drop :P

So right now I use paper (indented kraft paper) as my substrate. I know once a boa is gravid you're not supposed to handle her more than absolutely necessary so you do a lot of spot cleaning. I imagine this is not easy to do with paper. I also know many people have said that if a boa gives birth on aspen bedding that the aspen a) is good for the babies to wiggle around in as it helps get the afterbirth off of them and b) makes clean up a bit easier as it absorbs some of the "goo". So my question is this: when would you suggest switching to aspen?

Hey all,

September is here and I'm starting to put together a plan of exactly how and when I'm going to cycle my very first breeding. I've done a lot of reading online and have bought a few books and it seems everyone has their own way of doing things that is slightly different from everyone else. Using everything I've read as a guidline I'm trying to work out a plan that will, hopefully, work for my boas. Before starting anything I thought I'd see what works for everyone here. So here are my questions:

How many degrees do you lower your temps and over what period of time?
How many degrees do you lower at a time?
How long do you leave your temps lowered before raising them back up? How many degrees do you raise them at a time?
Do you change your lights to reflect your local sunrise/sunset temps...or do you make your own schedule entirely?
When do you introduce your snakes? Does it matter who you move? (does it matter if you move the male into the females cage or the female into the males?)
Also, when do you slow down or stop their feedings?
If you "slow down" their feedings prior to their introduction do you feed them less often, or just smaller meals?

I'm sure everyone does things a little different and am just curious as to what works for who. I know that's a lot of questions, lol, but there's a lot of info swimming around in my head! I think I know what I am going to do...but I figure the more info I get from people who have more experience than I do the better I can avoid mistakes.

Thanks :)

So yesterday I was cleaning cages like I do every day when I noticed something SOOOOO cool. I took my male jungle out and placed him in with my flame so I could clean his cage. Right away, the flame(girl) lifts her tail up and starts waiving it around and starts to elliminate a yellow to white liquid. It is a small amount but she does it all over the cage. My male climbed over her back and it seemed to get her more excited. Both were very active crusiing all around. I should take a video of it.

Well after I got done cleaning, I pulled the male and put him back into his own enclosure and then had to clean the mess my female made. lol

Has anyone else seen this?
