I think my big female is dehydrated, but I'm not sure. The only thing that makes me think she might be is that after she eats, every time she eats, no matter the size of the prey, her neck skin folds into what look like jowls behind her jaw and down her neck horizontally for a few inches and it stays like that for quite a while, as if the inside of her skin was sticky. I know I know, I really need pics. Next time I feed her I'll take some.

I know a sign of dehydration is "sticky skin" where you pinch it and it stays, and when I do that on the sides of her body it holds a little but still springs back pretty quick. She has perfect full sheds, liquid pee with her urates/poo, a big water bowl, and her RBI enclosure is misted daily. I've also been soaking her once a week or so and injecting her rats with water sometimes to keep her hydration up. That's why this whole neck skin thing has me stumped. Do any of your boas do that?

She has been through a lot, this girl. She arrived to me with a respiratory infection that I treated with a round of Amikacin, though it didn't quite knock it out and my vet recommended a second round. Then she dropped a litter of babies. I'd like to get that second round of antibiotics in before winter, but I don't want to start it up again if she's dehydrated.

Is there anything I can do that I'm not doing? Is there anything else it could be?

For a past couple weeks she was on the loose, and almost a week ago came back. I've been on vacation but I asked my friend to keep an eye on her for health issues. He said she has been soaking in one of her dished for the past couple days, so I thought either mites or maybe she's going to shed since she has been in her bowl constantly. Yesterday I heard that she "yawned" so I thought it must be shedding. Just got a call that she officially has mites!! He said he can see them on her and she tried to bite one off or something. They are bad, he said maybe like 15 on her that he can see and like 25 dead in her bowl. Also, my other snake Isis has one on him. Great . I'm going to do research on this subject but any help here would be greatly appreciated

Well it looks like I'm having a string of bad luck.

My larger boa girl, she's about 3 - 3 1/2 feet is doing what I think sounds like snorting. It sounds almost like she's got inflamed nasal cavities as the air going in and out squeaks or releases in a rush. A puffing, hissing, or popping sound. I'm sitting here listening to her doing it as I type this. There is no discharge however, no fluid, she doesn't have her mouth open... Her nose is just... squeaking.

I must note that this seems to happen whenever I bring her back in from outside as well. This time I had her out for longer and it's more pronounced. The last time I heard this she was only out for a few minutes and it only happened a couple times.

She's eaten this week and pooped. She's got what look to be caps forming over her eyes as well as she grows darker and gets closer to shed.

As I reached the end of this post it stopped all together. I am, needless to say, incredibly baffled by this. Can anyone shed light on what's going on?

I spent the better part of 2 months researching Rainbow Boas and looking for one before I finally got my baby just 5 days ago. She's had her first shed and eaten, the day I got her she let a nice little poo in her container. Anyway, onto the point.

3 days ago I moved her into her 10 gallon tank (after a short 2 day stay in a airated 1 gallon plastic container.) The plastic container had newspaper for substrate, a heat pad attatched to a thick cutting board underneath it, a water bowl, and a hygrometer and thermometer to make sure conditions in the container were correct. It was at 80% humidity over both days with only slightly damp newspaper. Temperature topped out at 87 cooler at night. Just throwing out details in case I did something wrong. Anyway, when I moved her from one container to the other I noticed white patches on her, it looked like scales that had lifted away from the rest. Seeing as her skin had gone tacky (it wasn't when I got her) and her eyes had paled out I assumed it was her shedding. The next day she had more of those spots and some of them even seemed blister like in consistency. I asked a friend who has owned snakes for a bit longer than I what it was, he thought it was shed. Today, one of those spots 'popped' a small amount of milkly fluid was emitted. Underneathe were new scales but they looked raw as if they weren't ready to be revealed. I have since cleaned the 'open wound' and put some neosporin on it. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I thought maybe Blister Disease but it occurs on the belly while hers is on her sides and back. Plus, Brazilian's are supposed to be pretty resistant to it because they NEED high humidity. Anyway, below are some pictures and some technical details on the tank as well as I've only given them on the plastic container.

Her tank is 10 gallon's with a small heat pad under the left side. The substrate is Eco Earth which I heard is great for high humidity reptiles as long as you change it out regularly to avoid molding. The substrate is slightly dampened to provide the cage with adequate humidity. The hot side (though it may be warmer directly over the pad) reads at 87, the cool at 80. I have a bowl of water, a log for a hide on the warm side, and a vine for climbing and hiding on the cool. She likes her cool side more.
If the link doesn't go to it directly it's under my scraps... Photobucket wasn't working. Sorry for the hassle.

Arrgh, yesterday I got that new Anery that I needed to identify. Now I noticed something else strange about him...
Now what??? If I had to guess i'd say it was an abscess. He did eat yesterday, and I didn't notice it before that. He's also going into shed. I felt it and it's definitely part of his skin, not a skeletal problem. Why me???
