My husband and I have worked very hard to build our snake an enclosure that he will not out grow, it is very large and has a pond in it with gold fish. He seems to like the pond and even swims and washes his face in the fountain, I don't mind if he eats the fish, I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of them eating fish?

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
not to say your doing anything bad. but fish are usually full of parasites ive read somewhere. what kind of gold fish are they. i mean its probably a cool enclosure and all but i might scratch the fish idea. they also poop and the water that your snake could be drinking could be full of bacteria from the fishes defecation and also if your snake happens to actually eat a fish, which idk if he will. well that could be not good for him either. what kind of filter do you have running for the water source? idk if its just me, but i think id get rid of the fish. but you could look into it more and find out more about water quality and all.

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
Although Boas might eat fish in the wild ,I don't think they do.
I believe Anaconda's might take a fish meal once in a while.
I would get rid of those fish out of that Boas water,
Gold fish are the Dirtiest fish you can find, they pea poo
in the water and make a mess, your Boa will end up with
parasites if it doesn't already have them.
The fish may look nice in the pond but it can't be good
for a captive Boa IMO
I think you will have a much happier & Healthier Boa
without the Gold fish

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
If you're talking about goldfish then it's definitely a bad idea. Goldfish can live for 20+ years but the reason most don't is because their water is not changed frequently enough. The fish are poisoning the water whenever they breathe and feed, so it can't be good for the snake to ingest IMO. I'm not sure about other fish but they do poop etc.. in the water as mentioned before, so I'd agree with it just being a Boa enclosure and thats it.

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
Yeah goldfish are a bad idea. The amount of ammonia they can produce is crazy.
Aside from that.... I would love to see this enclosure. It sounds amazing! Got photos?

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
I agree with everyone. That cannot be good for your RTB. If you like the idea of a lifelike terrarium I would only use articificial decorations. I say make it simple, put her in a boaphile, give her a few hides a good heat source and fresh water. That will make one happy snake. Just to reiterate on everyone else tho please don't use fish for all the previous reasons stated.

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
Some colubrids will eat fish when they are young. The garter snake that is native to my area, for example. But I don't believe fish are ever on the boa's menu. Also, as other have already mentioned, fish and the water they're in are always filthy in captivity despite the filtering systems we use.

Hey there... I am wanting to put a fountain in my RTB's enclosure... can you tell me more about yours, and how you like it, and what kind it is, and how it's working for you? Thanks!

Re: wil RTBs eat fish?
On top of everything else that has been mentioned, Goldfish are a cold water fish, that does best in water that is 70 degrees or cooler. However, I would love to see some pics of your enclosure. It sounds spectacular.
