Default carnivore sucker fish

I have a 30 gallon tank and 4 neons and a sucker fish. My sucker fish has gotten really lazy and pretty much won't move. About once a year one of my fish goes missing. The other day I saw me sucker fish devour one of my neons. My sucker fish is five years old so he is pretty big. Is it normal for a sucker fish to go after a fish every once in a while?

thanx John

Usually what happens is the fish dies from natural causes and the plecostomus eats on the dead body, after all they are scavengers ;D

HI,
I had one that would slide up on the larger fish and try and feed on the slime after they are sleeping . Do you offer any pleco algae disk food at nite. MAny of the pleco are pretty hungry due to the lack of algae and many love to have wood in the tank to chew on. Most wood can taint the water a little yellow but if you have carbon filters they will clear it.
MAny pleco's will not live without wood. there are some awsome dwarf pleco's I like clown pleco, zebra(pricy), I have rhino, and a rare red velvet pleco. I saw an article in a fish magazine about pleco's and they had a picture of one speared in the amazon that was over three feet..

I do feed him algae pellets at night and he does have some wood in his tank. Those are some cool looking plecos! That Sunshine pleco looks huge!

Try cutting up some cucumber into thin slices. Pleco's love them.

Hi,

They will also enjoy a piece of tomato now and then, don't worry if the feces turns red from that.

I had a Bushy Nosed Pleco that preferred meaty foods like worms etc. over veggies. It would occasionally nail a smal fish that came within range. :

HI,
I believe small pieces of zuccini squash is the best Veggie, they can stress your filters so check for slime ( it takes a while to dissolve )after feeding.
