I'm sure some people will tell you otherwise, but I really don't think a vet trip is necessary in your case. It looks like it's just at the very outer layer which will actually probably come off in the shed. I would apply the ointment asap to make sure it doesn't go deeper though. Check it again after 2 - 3 days of using the ointment and if it looks the same or worse, go to the vet.

On the other hand, if you have the extra $75 or whatever they charge you just laying around, then I guess it wouldn't hurt. I don't like spending money on something I can fix for $3 though.

They are pretty much the exact same thing, but neosporin has neomycin. Basically, neomycin is a bacteria killer.

The only neosporin that has pain killer is the one that says it right on the box. The original neosporin has no pain killers.

--------------------

To apply the 50/50 solution, you can use a soaked cottonball and lightly rub it on the rotten areas, but I pretty much put a towel on the floor, poured the solution in a mug, had my girlfriend hold the snake, and poured it all over. I wanted to make sure I got every area. I think my way will work better, but it'll waste a lot of peroxide.

Eclypse- thanx for your input. I am glad a vet trip is not immediate at thi spoint ( I just put some neosporin on her and did the peroxide soln this morning) I do choose to take her to the vet... but I know I can wait til after she sheds and not rush-rush. I have yet to take a snake to the vet b/c this is th efirst issue I ever had, my ball pythons have been very healthy so far. i know of a few places that does reptiles tho, so it's not like I haven't found a vet-I just havent picked one yet, but I have options. I would like to go through the whole vet process before a major imergency happens. I know I should have picked one already, but it's easy to put off when your snakes are healthy. I am going to start making pone calls asap, and get her an apointment when she is done shedding. My sister recomended a vet, even tho she has ferrets, she said this vet was good.

thanks again for your advice and input, both me and my snake appreciate it! even tho she didn't really like the peroxide wash...LOL.

Sprite2k- I wish you the best of luck with your snake! I know what you are going through!

Great news! My boa just shed! And it was complete fo the most part! only about 2-3 inches of her tail was a seperate piece, and considering I am having a heck of a time with the humidity in this cage, I was shocked! ( new cage is on the way)

Her belly really cleared up, I am not seeing the brown, but I think I can still see hints of where it was, tho I may just be paranoid an dthink I can see the hints of it... her belly looks much better, i'd say 90%, prolly even higher. I am continuing on w/ applying the ointment and the peroxide soln just in case and to ease my worring. But worse case senerio, its clearing up but not completly gone.

I did make a phone call to trooper vet, they do take snakes, but since icalled 2 minutesd b4 closing I didn't make an apointment. Plus, I wanted her to shed first. She'll eventually go, I just want to feed her first and give her some days to see if the neosporin clears it up. If it starts looking like its getting worse, I'll be calling the vet up asap.

Eclyps19, I cannot thankyou enough, as well as th eother people on this forum. I am a very timid and shy person, I usually lurk in forums long before I post in fear of meanpeople, and I am glad you all here are not mean! Thanx for being so considerate to others and very helpful as well. I really appreicate it.

I just realized that there is no neosporin or polysporin in israel (yes i live in israel) what to do??? i've some antibiotics that conatain 0.675% neomycin(the main ingredient in neosporin) but didn't found polymixin in any other antibiotics. the vet said every day to do a polydin bath and it will pass within 2 shed(that's surely not going to work) so what am I going to do to save my snake?!

Default Re: Is this scale rot?

bacitracin zinc and polymyxin b sulfate

those are the 2 active ingredients that both neosporin and polysporin contain. Find something with both of those and you should be fine. Just make sure there are no other active ingredients, and if there are, research them to make sure they are not pain killers or anything else dangerous.
