Re: Is this scale rot?
make sure the eye medication has no other active ingedients. also, try to find a gel or cream form, since a liquid wont stay on very well.
as for the H202, it's usually only sold in 3%. Mix a bit in a cup. 1/2 h202 and half water.

Re: Is this scale rot?
Also gonna piggyback this topic if i can.
been looking after redtail/mebbe common boa from someone who could no longer look after him, for about a month now
Never had a case of scale rot in all the time i have kept snakes so i dont know what i am looking for but he seems to have slightly pink edges to his scutes which seem to vary in their redness depending on temp/time of day etc.
Very occasionally there will be a ever so slight "blottchyness" about the whole underbelly area but thats usually after he has moved off from where the heatmat is.
I've looked at the pictures here and the scutes on my boa are perfectly intact, not broken, chipped, rough or texturally different... just reddish on the edges. Same sorta colouring that we humans get if we get too hot.
Any ideas?
Will try to get a picture, but hes currently well asleep and i dun like waking him from his hide.
Thanks for any help

Re: Is this scale rot?
Are you sure the heat isn't too hot? Please post pictures. Also, some snakes have a pinkish color to their bellies. Others get pinkish when they are going into shed.

Re: Is this scale rot?
It might be from the belly heat. Sometimes they can't feel when the heat is too hot and it will burn them. do you have a t-Stat? If not I would get one so you can regulate the heat. Shoot some pics over so we can see.

Re: Is this scale rot?
Cant seem to actually get a picture that shows it, Flash just seems to white out his scales and without them, nothing really shows.
But it does seem to be getting a little more blotchy.

Re: Is this scale rot?
I know its truly a terrible pictuer but its the best i can manage
you can /just/ see a slight hint of redness on the right side of the scutes above the somewhat annoyingly placed shadow.
Wouldnt be surprised if this was no help to anyone. but its the best i can manage

Re: Is this scale rot?
Yeah i do have a T-stat. keeps everything nice and warm, but not too hot, and the humidity is low.
I have a wood chip substrate but i've checked all of it and its all bone dry. Looking furthur into it, they patches are definatley red-pink and not even slightly brown or flakey or otherwise raised.
Looks like like a botchy rash. My friend says he has had similar redness since he was small but it just seems to have got worse of late.
that being said, he eats fine and is very active and exploratory.

Re: Is this scale rot?
one of my males has the same thing. i have had him since he was a neo he is 5 now and he has always had these pink and red blatches on his belly. when he gets ready to shed the whole belly turns bright pink or red. right after shed is when the blotches are the lightest and barely noticeable. so i think it could just be part of the color. my heat never exceeds 92. I wouldnt worry to much it doesnt sound like scale rot to me
