This should serve as a reminder to all of us to follow safe handling practices. It should also show the dinks in various legeslative bodies around this country that permits are not going to solve any problems...

I believe we will find different information truthful other then what has been reported by the Media.
At this point there are no facts to support this Python is to blame for the death of this child.
Either way in the final analysis the parents are to blame.

This kind of thing hits home pretty hard with us that have children. Safety practices that we use will be taught to others and those people will continue to teach.

So to those of you that have anyone interested in this hobby that is not apart of this forum, or are a beginner in the herp world, or just enthusiasts. Please teach and talk about the safe practices that we all use to prevent such an event from happening.

I know of a few people on this forum that post on youtube. It would be great if a few of you could do a small video to make others aware of safety practices that should always be followed when handling or keeping larger constrictors.

I just wish that more people would spend time reading this information in the "owners manual" books that were written specifically for the species of snake that they own. I read up on RTB's for years before I got my first one and know the books almost by heart. Thanks for reading this long winded post.

It's really sad that this little girl died. Ultimately.... the parents are at fault. As much as they may be punishing themselves..... I believe they should be prosecuted as well. If the snake actually did kill their child.... They are clearly at fault.

About the snake....

It was an Albino Burmese and when measured it was 8' 5". Still, it was much to large for glass aquarium.

Yeah, they should have had it in a proper enclosure.

"Darnell told investigators that he put the snake in a bag inside its aquarium Tuesday night."

I call for a federal ban on sacks!

agreed (to all of you so far). a permit would have been useless, and the parents were (are) idiots. it's such a shame an innocent 2 y/o had to pay for it. i'm sure it was a classic case of a large snake kept in a screen-top aquarium, probably with "large books" or something on top to "keep it from getting out." people's ignorance is just too much to handle.

large snakes + small children + cages w/o locks + STUPID PEOPLE = disasters waiting to happen

(where did it say that they weren't 100% sure it was the python? the article says the mom's bf found it around her in the crib...)
