Default Bad Breeding pairs in classifieds?

I just wanted to get an opinion from those of you who have been in the boa trade for a while.

I'm not looking for a breeding size or pair of boas, but I noticed something the last few weeks on the boa classifieds that I look at.

Is it just me, or has there been a big increase in the number of "breeding pairs" and "breeding size" boas in the last few weeks? The ads all swear up and down that the males are not burned out and that the females are ready to breed. That seems a little odd to me since breeding season is just about at an end if not over, right?

Would I be wrong to be a little suspicious about the quality of these pairs and breeding males/females? If they are so great and in perfect breeding condition, why didn’t they breed them this season?

I guess it all boils down to the reputation of the breeders once again.

I'm not saying all the adult boas in the classifieds are bad btw.

I have been looking in my local classifieds in Utah (not a ton of course) and on kingsnake mainly.

Be careful of any breedable this or that for sale, but you are right as it depends on the sellers rep. Either way, you are better off buying babies/yearlings and raising your stock, get to know your snakes Vs buying these adults and not knowing the baggage they come with. Not many breeders will sell breedable adults, especially females that are 100% in good shape. And if they do, it's usually not on the classifieds.

Just my $0.02

I agree with ssscales, unless someone is getting out of the business all together. I'd be very suspicious of the adult breedable boas forsale. Your right it makes no sense to put so much time into raising a Boa then selling at breeding age.Either they don't breed or they are burnt out.My opinion actually but really. Most guys who get out of the business ,know so many peopl. They don't have to run ads to sell collection.Lar M
