  • Sad mystery in the news

For anyone who is or was a customer of Renick Reptiles* in Missouri, I just found this in our local news (KTLO) & I am sharing it here, for whom it may concern-
    (*www.benrenick.com)

NEW FLORENCE, Mo. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the death of a Missouri snake breeder who was shot several times by an intruder. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Montgomery County Sheriff Matthew Schoo says 29-year-old Benjamin Renick was found last week near several hundred caged snakes inside his business, Renick Reptiles. He specialized in breeding designer pythons at the business that he ran out of a building near his home. He sold the nonvenomous snakes nationwide.
The initial report was that he may have been killed by a large snake that was on the loose, although that’s not what happened. Schoo said people of interest had been identified but offered few details.
Renick’s father was a pet food manufacturer who killed himself in 2012 after federal authorities accused him of mishandling investor funds.

(Well, wouldn't you know, the first conclusion that some people jump to is that "a snake must have done it" -even with bullet wounds. So beware of pistol-packing pythons...

Yeah, I heard about this the day he was found. Immediately people were blaming snakes even though it was also revealed that he was shot. Snakes don't carry guns.... well, I know a couple boas who might draw one and pull the trigger at the same time because they like to grab loops around people's waists. They don't care if it is a belt loop, key lanyard or wallet chains.

I didn't know him at all, or I might have titled this thread a little differently. But I figured he was part of our community & especially sad because he was so young.
This was my first look at his website & it's impressive...he obviously had a lot going on. What a shame...

I had known him for years, both online and in person. He was a shining light in the community. Always willing to talk, give advice and extremely nice and polite. Lynlee, his wife, is also a wonderful lady and my heart breaks for her loss.

What she said. This is heartbreaking.
