Newbie Ball Python owner

[Summer]

This looks like a great online community for snake owners. I was amazed by the pictures. I have always loved different types of animals but when my daughter wanted a snake I had to think twice. When we saw our Ball Python we fell in love with his patterns and took him home. She named him Coolio because she thought snakes were cool.

Welcome Summer. Even though you are a BP owner, if you hang around here enough you will end up with some boas. LOL. Check out the Ultimate Care Guide. It has tons of info on snake husbandry and anything else you will want to know. Congrats on your new pet. You will like it here no doubt. The people here are the most thoughtfull and knowledgable people you could ever meet. Post some pics please, I'm sure all of us would like to see the new addition.

Welcome to the forums. There are a lot of really helpful people around here. We're more boa-centric, but there are lots of people here with BPs also!

Thanks for the welcome. I am working my pics of my new cutie. I fell in love with his colors and patterns. And I am quickly learning there are so many different kinds of boas and pythons. I like the spider BP patterns. I have a feeling I will end up getting another BP or boa sooner or later.

Welcome to the forum. I have two ball pythons and five boas. I love them all but sometimes the balls can be picky eaters where the boas are machines. Good luck with them they are addicting!

Thanks for the welcome. It is good to share with others who find snakes fasinating. I have had some strange looks and responses when I told my friends and coworkers I got my python. Luckily, he is eating on schedule with no problems.

This forum IS more focused on Boa's but everybody is very friendly and happy to talk about any reptiles. If you ever have any questions about your ball I myself and others here are always happy to help!

I like the spider BP patterns.

Welcome to the forum. I too have BPs as well as boas. Just a quick comment on your liking of the spider BP pattern. They are cool snakes, I have one myself to pair up with my pastel. The biggest shock to me that I was not aware of with the spider morph is their likelyhood of having neurological issues. It is said that this issue is due mostly to the inbreeding that has been done to create the morph. What you will notice on a lot of them is a twisting and turning of their head like they have no control. I FREEKED out when I first saw this because of what it could mean in a boa or python. Anyway, if you get one, don't be alarmed if you notice this uncontrolled behavior. I for one learned this after getting one and for this reason would not get another one. If you do, talk with the breeder and ask if they have seen this in their snakes and hope you will get an honest answer.

Anyway, good luck with your guy there and don't be shocked when you have your eye on another next week.

I have been warned the obsession begins with the first one and I can understand why. After seeing the beautiful pics on this forum, my next addition will be a RTB. Thru this site I found the Ball-Pyhons.net forum too. But I keep coming back to RTB.
