  • Dumerils

Hey Guys, Im new to the forum!
I have a 4.5', 4 year old Female Dumeril's ground boa. I would like to breed her next year (if this is possible). I would greatly appreciate any tips specific to this snakes captive breeding. I have already read alot about this species, I just want to hear from more people that have experience with this boid.

If you havent seen this snake already - Enjoy. As far as I know, this is the only Hypomelanistic Acrantophis Dumerili. She belongs to a collection in Germany. Meet Rosa, the Hyo-Dume!

    Hello Chambers,

    Welcome to the forums..

Dumerils breeding is different then BCI Baos to some extent.. Since Dumerils are a smaller boa all around, the main thing you will need to do is wait for the right age.. By next year you should have no problem, as long as you get a male she likes.. Dumerils are abit harder to breed and not get too many slugs then say the columbian BCI boa. But I know several who have had luck.. While the dumerils are gravid, a very, very stable temp is needed to bring them out healthy. They seem to be very sensitive to heat changes and humidity changes., and a good idea is to take a very hands off approach while gravid. I know a few that were sucessful with the mating but ended up with a real low number of live births.. Just make sure your using a cage that maintains perfect temp non-stop..

Very pretty Hypo you got there..

Hope that helps, and great luck with breeding..

What is the best relative humidity percentage for the Dumeril's?

When I had them I would shoot for 65%. They seemed to do real well in that. Over 70% and their skin felt too soft in my opion.. 60% will work fine..

That hypo is a beautiful dumeril. I had a trio that had high orange, but I sold them before I had a chance to raise them for breeding. I would research ground boas and the breeding of them.
To gain knowledge is good, but to share knowledge is wise
