Okay, well ah we have all together seven snakes. We have four red tail boas in one huge cage. Considering some of the conditions of the older snakes, we didn't think they would breed. We resque abused snakes. Well one night we heard a loud hissing noise, and well saw two of our snakes ah going at it... yeah... We didn't think Revi (revilation) was pregnant, because she showed no signs. We walked into our bedroom today, and saw countless numbers of baby red tail boas! Please help we have no idea what to do! We don't want to risk moving the babies until we are sure, of what to do. We also don't have big enough cages for the other four boas. Should we remove the other older boas? We are using care fresh (basically shredded newpaper) for their litter, so you can image how hard it is to get an exact number of babies. Heheh, we know how to take care of older boas, but no idea about babies! Help please if you can!

Re: HELP!!! Plllleeeaaseee oh god HELP!
You need move the mother away from the babies some how in a diff. enclosure. As long as the mother can smell her babies and the birth fluid she will try to diffend her babies. You also need to find somthing to put the babies in asap.

Well, after freaking out over our beloved snake, we called, and talked to a vet. The mother, and her babies are now seperated, the mother's cage has been cleaned well, and she has calmed down finally. It was a little hard to get Revi away from her babies, as soon as some one walked into the room, her head would pop up instantly. Good thing we have great workmans gloves! At her age, this was probally her first pregnancy. She gave birth to six babies, who are all in good health. They are really beautiful. We hope to take some pictures soon, to show everyone.

Re: HELP!!! Plllleeeaaseee oh god HELP!
One has already been claimed, the others are up for good homes, in about a week. We are not sure how much to sell them for though. We were thinking $50 each. We are trying to get some pictures done, but our camera really sucks. Two more of the babies may be sold by Monday. I hope I am not being to pushy or anything, but I'd like to question the snake buyers, about the exsperinces. I want to make sure they know how to take care of a snake, and their resposibilities... Is it being too pushy to ask the potential buyers about there knowledge of snakes? The person who bought the first snake is one of our friends. He's actually gave us two other snakes, one of them was the father. He also took a african rock off our hands, we had to get rid of, because it simply hated us... Don't know why, but it snaped, and bit anyone that came near it. Our friend takes it, and it becomes an angel. Must have not liked our smell or somthing. Anyway, we are thinking of breeding her again next year. Although we may get another male, because the father Gaberial is alot older, and bigger than her.

Re: HELP!!! Plllleeeaaseee oh god HELP!
Ok.. First, now that you have separated the mom and babies already...There's still more you need to take care of atm....
Make sure that you feed the mom.. most likely she was off feed for a bit. Once they clutch, they are usually quite hungry hehe.
Second.. You need to separate each of the babies individually. Seeing as you most likely do not have a rack system for the babies at all....You can do this with basic shoebox sized plastic totes even. Place some airholes in them for starters. Line the bottom of them with some newspaper. Place a small bowl of water in each one and something for a hide [you can use a cardboard tube np for this actually..ie tp or pt roll. Just make sure that you change them often as you do not want them to mildew up from any humidity at all]. Place these on top of a heating pad [ human type] set at medium on one end underneath the totes. Make sure that you place something heavy on top of the totes or your going to be doing some snake hunting soon lol.
Do NOT pull or cut any cording that is attached to any of the babies at all. Do NOT try and disattach any yolk sac either. If there is yolk type sac on any of them..just keep it moist
[ water] basically. The baby will absorb this and get some nutrition from it also.
The babies will go through their first shed approximately 5-10 days after they were born. After they shed, offer them feed. Do NOT handle them for 48 hours after feeding. [ Hard to resist, but it is for their health ].
Keep an index card on each of the babies also. Just mark off when they shed, eat and urate/defacate also. You can attach this to each of the totes they are in np on the outside.
Please do NOT consider selling any of the babies and passing them to their new homes until they have shed and eaten at least one meal. If someone bought one and has no clue/experience with snakes.. This could be a problem if the baby turned out to be a non feeder or such. Best to wait.. go ahead and sell them, but don't release them until you know that they are all set first.
As for asking/checking out someone who wants to purchase any of the babies. Go right ahead and do thatYou have every right to and it is in the best interest of the babies also.
In regards to breeding the mom again next year...UGH. I am one of those that really do not care to be breeding females every year. i think it only helps to increase health problems possibly and also will shorten the life of the female also possibly from being bred to the ground.I prefer and reccomend to breed the females every other year. You also need to get the mom back up to par, especially weightwise. Just don't go powerfeeding her to do this either please.
GOOD LUCK with the babies and CONGRATULATIONS !! ;D

Re: HELP!!! Plllleeeaaseee oh god HELP!
Thanx for the advise, but we have already done that. We bought smaller cages, but the toleit paper roll, I don't like to use, because it get's dirty to easily, so we use small wooden hide pieces. The mother was fed a thawed rat yesterday, and is sepereated from the larger snakes. We traded a snake to our friend, for a large cage he didn't need. Of course the snake is still with us. I didn't think to use cards though, I will do that. We have some one helping us, that has been taking care of snakes for a very long time. He works at a pet shop, reptile, and fish department, and has been working there for I think five years, but he has owned snakes for a long time. We posted to this bord, because we panicked, and couldn't get ahold of him. Thank you everyone for your help!
