  • Need info on Caramel boas

Ok I could use some help on the caramel line.

What is the difference in BW caramel and VPI caramel.
Can you see a difference visually between the two caramel lines?

I'm looking at a het caramel boa but the owner doesn't know which it
is as he purchased her 3 years ago on a breeding impulse but never
could find a het caramel mate so is now letting her go.
He picked her up from a well known exotics store.
I will call them tommorrow but I doubt they will remember.
I do know that this female was quite the price so I don't doubt
she is what they said she is.
    Please Help.
Lar I believe you are the one that is really into the caramel line
so if you see this help.
    Thanks guys and gals.

This is not as easy to answer as it should be
Lets see how to explain the difference. Actually they both are speculated to be Tyrosinase Positive Boas as are the Paradigm and the Sharp Albino.
The difference between B.W. Caramel and VPI Caramel is not known for certain but they probably are incompatible in some way. This is probably speculation as well, no one has bred them together yet. But Sharp bred to VPI Carm are not compatible so you can make the correlation that B.W. & VPI would not be as well because of the B.W.Caramel Sharp creating Paradigms correlation.

You can see a visual difference in the Homozygous forms of VPI Caramel versus B.W.Caramel

That might change somewhat soon with more selective breeding with B.W.Caramels

VPI Caramels tend to usually have a whiter/paler base color

My guess if your Boa is a Het for Caramel at all

It would be Het VPI Caramel

B.W.Caramels and hets are still quite rare

I can't understand why someone would sell their Het Caramel to a Pet Shop

when I would think it could be sold for greater out right through the Boa classifieds

Being a Fem there would be definite demand as the Fem Hets for either Caramel types fetch a higher price

Three years ago Fem Het VPI Caramel '07 probably $2500 - $3000

    I think hard to remember

I'd be Leary if I were you

    BW caramel - click here

Just occurred to me it also could be a Parahet which is offspring from a Paradigm breeding
They , Parahets prove to be Het For B.W or Het Sharp

IMO , anyone with a het Caramel - of either type- would know which type it is. It would be too important not to know . Without any documentation, I'd be leery of buying it , for it could be a plain old normal from some Boa named "Caramel" . It just doesn't make any sense to sell a real Caramel or het to a pet shop .

Re: Need info on Caramel boas

I understand completely my alerts are up aswell. thats why I am trying to get as much info as possible.
As for the pet shop they do carry alot of high end boas they were some of the first that
I saw in person years ago with the motley albino. They also I believe 5 years ago
were the place to go for pie bald pythons.
But I haven't been able to get a hold of the owner of the shop for questioning.

heres some pics What do you guys think about just the looks.
Becuase even if she is a normal she is a georgeous snake.
