    HI Forum,
My little male hog was out today, he didn't want his picture taken but I managed a little blurry around the face.
He seems to have a lot of grey for a baby, caint wait to see him around three.
    doug his DOB was 06/09/02

my oldest female didn't even show grey till almost 2 y/o and that bright orange color dosen't show much till 2 y/o.
you can see he's a bit nervous I really like hog islands they are always peeking out of hides and nosing about.
    doug
that loose skin aroound the head occurs when they are having growth spurts they grow their skin first and then fill it out.. he was very slow growing at first but seems to be taking off now. they really change as they age you really never know how good a baby will be until around 2 y/o.

here's a picture of my female around 13 mos light in color

    same gal alittle older

so if you want a hog hang on to them a few years cause they can surprise you around three

Good shots Doug. The hoggs are amazing. They are the color changing champions of the boa world.
To gain knowledge is good, but to share knowledge is wise

                    HI,
CAn they change color, the can go from a chalky orange to a dark orange depending on mood temp and time of day. They tend to darken as they age, you never really know how good a baby is gonna be until its at least 2-3 years old.
They are very interesting to own, they watch you constantly when your in the room . they are my favorite species of boas.
Try and buy one from CLay I ve seen tremendous variation in color from breeder to breeder.
They have a history behind the species probably extinct in the wild and are very resilant from living in extremly harsh environment, this can make them a bit finicky to feed the first few months, I find you should just relax and if they only want to eat every two weeks so be it.
that 3y/o only eats about every 3-4 wks and she don't look to thin to me..

psps here's a little history of the species

                        HI,
send Clay an e-mail that your interested, he has a couple breeding pair that will drop some in the spring, They are so worth the wait. Many times the best go to the forum readers...
ps clay has numerous bci for sale now, you can buy a local at the pet store but it will cost almost as much it could have a health problem and will probably not look as nice as an adult.
The boa's CLay and the Boaphile sell are the end result of trying to improve the quality of the animal.. you can spot one of the Boa's after you have owned one they stand out..

I buy pythons from B clark and Boa's from Clay.
                        ;D

They are great looking Boas, but I am not sure about buying a snake that might be a finicky eater. Thats the last thing I want. Nothing worse than having a snake that wont eat, maybe its just me but I hate that!

Doug, are most of them finicky, or just some. Cause I would really like to buy one from Clay, but I want him to eat. :-\

                            HI,
WHen you buy one ask Clay for a little piggy out of every litter there's couple that may not feed as quickly, and there's always the ones that eat and eat. So the breeder wants you to be happy if you let him know up front. I believe cage temps are the most important feeding item and having the right cage for the species I v noticed young boa's seem to do better feed quicker if not handled as much the first year I have two young snake that I only open their tupper wareboxes to feed clean and water .
I usallly leave the wee ones a lone for a few months until they show and interest about cruising the cage this usally occurs as they are moving up to just weinied rats then they seem more relaxed. Probably the only time they venture out in the wild is when they are about to starve to death its risky being a young boa, some of this may be genetic in nature so animals in capitivity are the ones that lived in the wild in the past generations the really dumb friendly ones may have been someone lunch...
Many of the Hogs are sleeper's they look normal and then really show some color as they age I don't know how danior will turn but he's show's potential already ...
                            doug
the easiest boa's to keep are the common BCI, The BCC are alittle more trouble and some of the hogs can be picky the first year, my adult female is extremly easy to feed as you can see in my album she always takes the rat from my forceps or hand never tries to nail me.
They seem to understand the feeding process after a couple years
I haven't had much problems with any of the animals I keep ,,even the ball pythons are pigs. But I do keep them at optimal temps and humidity...
