  • My Boas - 1.0 Normal BCI (2013); 0.1 Hypo Central American (December 2015)

Since I've actually been active in this forum lately, albeit in the mites area (Repticon-induced snake acquisition madness is now cured, thankyouverymuch), I figured I'd show pictures of my two beasties.

First up is Leonard -- he's my first boa, acquired in June of 2013. This is unfortunately his most recent picture, taken in July of 2015, and he was not feeling at all cooperative that day as evidenced by the grip I had on him to keep him in the frame. We gave up on photos for the day after this, for obvious reasons.

He's still not the biggest guy, but appears to finally be on a bit of a grow at the moment. And Leonard is, hands down, my favorite snake on the planet

Next is Rose, my 0.1 Central American baby, who came with a free batch of snake mites we're currently treating for (sigh).

In spite of her little unwanted friends, I am thrilled with her. She's absolutely gorgeous, and once we've got those nasties wiped out (we've been to the vet and are treating with ivermectin per orders; all our reptiles are on lockdown except for necessary handling until the mites are vanquished) I will be thrilled to be able to start working with my little girl

We have no breeding plans in spite of their gorgeousness (admittedly, I'm biased). Leonard is strictly a pet due to a now-nearly imperceptible kink in his tail and one eye with micro opthalmia. Rose is possible het T+, but we won't be proving her out one way or another so it's really immaterial.

At any rate those are my babies. We also have 1.1 2012 Kenyan sand boas, 1.1 2012 cinnamon ball pythons, 1.0 2012 Dumeril's boa, 0.1 1995 diamond/carpet intergrade, and 0.0.1 2015 sulcata tortoise. Thanks for having me aboard, y'all

P.S. Sorry for the photo sizes -- I don't know how take them any smaller :/

The photo sizes are fine. You weren't kidding when you said she was small. Are those speckles on her natural speckles or the unwanted friends?

What is 0.0.1? Unknown sex? I don't know much about that format other than it is M.F quantities... and I only found out about that a couple weeks ago.

The black specks on her are her natural patterning, thank goodness. Most of the mites on her are/were (hopefully more "were" now) near microscopic.

And yes, 0.0.1 means indeterminate sex. We won't know Sam's gender until he's much larger. Right now he's slightly bigger than a kitchen sponge and is happily living his little life as an "it" I just use "he" because I am surrounded by males in my house -- 2 sons, 1 husband, 2 cats (both male), 3 dogs (2 males, 1 female) so I figure if there is any unknown to an animal in our home I might as well resign myself to the fact that it's likely male, LOL

I understand. I wasn't sure. He's got a long happy life ahead of him.

Yep, he sure does! Luckily #2 Son has agreed to take over his care when my husband and I are no longer able. Of course, the boy is currently 13 so that may change... but we'll be sure to make arrangements.

If he is 13 he might even need to pass it down eventually. lol

Beautiful boas, that normal is probably the cleanest I have seen. Any photos of the Dumerils boa?

                Thank you !

Leonard is insanely clean, yes. He probably has some interesting genetics. I hate not knowing, but must be prudent

And yes, we do have pictures of our Dumeril's, same date (July, 2015) as Leonard's was taken. He's officially named Sheldon, and was actually in a good mood for this photo session unlike his counterpart.

They are beautiful "babies"! Those little imperfections aren't important or make Leonard any less wonderful* and it sounds like the rest of your "family" is not only special but lucky to have you too.
*And when you get caught up in breeding, it's so easy to end up with more snakes than you planned & less time that you can enjoy them as pets...breeding isn't necessary nor is it for everyone.

Rose is so tiny that it's very fortunate that you noticed her mites right away...but she'll be fine, what a cutie! (the others too!)

Thank you And yeah, another huge reason I'm not going to breed (anyone) is because holy cats, the number of babies you get can be extreme. And I know me, I'm as ridiculous about baby snakes as I am about puppies and kittens and I'd be hard pressed to let any go... so yeah, much better we just keep everyone in their own separate homes with no chance of teensy snakes!

Besides, Rose is teensy enough for anyone

You certainly do have some gorgeous babies and I know you said you weren't going to breed but I sure would be tempted with 1.1 Cinnamon BPs. Mmmmmm....Super Cinnies!

Thanks for posting all the pics.

Thanks! Yeah, I'd be lying if I said that thought hadn't crossed my mind with our BPs, but it still comes down to having to either find homes for or keep a passel of beepers. And much as I love our little guys, I cannot see keeping a collection of 20+ pet rocks. NOTHING against ball pythons, and I know folks have huge collections! They have many awesome qualities, I just prefer my boas. They're a bit more interactive
