  • How To Weigh Your Boa (Video)

Well peeps I was due for another video and this time I wanted to get a little creative. Sorry for the bad quality (lately IDK was wrong with Youtube) and my son was the camera man in this one, he is 10 years old, but he was very excited and he is loving reptiles as much as I am. One thing guys, I know this is not the best way to actually weigh your snake, I am sure many of the more experienced keepers will advise of a better method and more adequate equipment. Another thing I want to point out is that the snakes safety was never in jeopardy in any way. Enjoy:

I think it's an accurate method, though it seems a bit tedious and stressful. Not to the point of being an issue or anything(unless she hurt herself grippin a zipper too hard), but compared to just weighing her while on you. I use my digital scale, and do the same as you. Weigh myself first, then me with the snake on. But, if she likes her hides, you could leave the bag propped open in her enclosure, and see if she would crawl in on her own? She's a beauty for sure though, can't wait to make one of my own.

                Nice, great idea.
I was just trying to figure out how to weigh my snake.

My idea was going to be snake + pillow case = sit her on the scale.

like stated before hold the boa jump on the scale the difference of the weight by yourself and the weight with the boa is the weight of the snake. but to each his own. if it works which ever way go for it. thank you for the suggestion. been awhile havent seen you on the tube.

Hi Ron, that's another great idea on how to weigh a boa. I haven't been on youtube or anywhere else lately brother, im finishing up a college degree that I procrastinated on for about 3 years. Im finishing up this semester so im taking advantage and catching up on the forum while I can because soon I won't be able to poke my head in here as much. I really need to add some more of my rtb buddies on facebook that would be the easiest way to keep up with everything; im going to start a new thread with my facebook info. I know I got you, E, Jeff, and maybe a few others. Anyway I will be making a couple of more videos soon bud.

You probably have a decent scale?
My scale is dead on at weights under 50lbs.
but seems to start messing up above a certain weight.
If I put 2 45lb plates on there I get anything from 90 to 95.
(But it weighs 5 and 10lb weights dead on)

I had been wondering about a good way to weigh Gaia, my boa, since getting her so thanks for this video. Thought about getting a hanging scale since we recently put one up on sale through work and using that but I don't know how accurate it is xD and it's one of those old hook ones that you hang things from.

I think that scale would work. One way to insure that it is accurate first weigh an item you are absolutely sure how much it weighs (I used a five lb. ba of potatoes...lol) and then if it reads that weight (5 lbs.) the scale is accurate. If it is off by say 1 lb. you add or substract it from the reading the scale measures, make sense? Let me attempt to explain: Say the five pound bag I had weighed in at 4 pounds on my scale, I would know the scale is off by 1 lb because the bag actually weighs 5 lbs. So when I weigh the snake if the scale reads 10 lbs. for example I know I will have to add 1 lb. to compensate because the scale is not calibrated. I hope I am explaining it correctly. If not can someone jump in and help me explain? Remember this is just to get a rough idea how much my snake weighs, I doubt it would be 100% accurate but it should be close, maybe within 1 or 2 lbs. In my opinion it is better than just guessing.

It also helps to get them in the bag if you have most of it zipped up. Then I assume they think it's a great place to hide. I was having a lot of trouble with the bag completely open until I zipped it up. Then my boy crawled right it!
