  • Scoria Boas

No other snake is shrouded in as much mystery and innuendo as the Scoria boa. The first I had ever heard of the Scoria was from the book "The Complete Boa Constrictor" by Vincent Russo published in 2007. A short paragraph and a couple of pictures, virtually no information existed of this stunning, super rare boa morph. But man, those two pictures "blew me away", as I'm sure it did many of you too!

I never could get this snake out of my head and when the opportunity arose in 2012 to purchase a pair of these amazing boas from Rich Ihle, we jumped on it. Rich was the only person to ever have any for sale. I believe a total of 8 boas were sold to 5 different parties over a span of a couple of years. I remember finally getting these snakes home and opening the bag for the first time. It was amazing, unbelievable, no words even describe the feeling of seeing and owning them. Something I had only seen in a book a few years earlier.

The boas thrived and grew quickly, in the fall of 2014 the male began to show interest in breeding. I paired him with a couple of females that were "ready to go", and go he did! Female #1 dropped her litter the first week of May 2015. When I first saw the babies I almost couldn't believe my eyes. There they were, live healthy Scoria babies. All the doubt and uncertainty concerning this morph instantly disappeared. They are fine, more than fine, they are Freaking amazing! There are no "issues" with the Scoria boa as some rumors might have you believe. Robust, healthy and rock solid would best describe them!

It's a well known unwritten rule that all first time posters must donate one Scoria boa to next upcoming contest.
                    Very, very nice work.
