    Re: Questions about breeding

    Welcome to the redtailboas.com forum!

This forum is primarily for genetics questions. For example, what do I get if I breed an albino boa to an anerythristic boa. If that is what you are interested in, then fire away.

On the other hand, there is a boa breeding forum, Boa Breeding. It is for questions about how to set up the cage environment to make a boa want to mate with another boa, how much time between mating and birth, etc. That forum may be more the sort of thing you are looking for. Check it out.

    Good luck.

Yes actually I have a female Sunglow and a male albino. What will i get after I breed them and how will I know when it's ok to breed them. How old should she be before i can breed her?

        Re: Questions about breeding

The expectation is half sunglow babies and half albino babies. Actual results may vary. This also assumes that both snakes have two copies of the Kahl albino gene, the more common type of albino. If one of the parents is Sharp albino and the other is Kahl albino, then half of the babies would be expected to look normal and half would be hypos.

I have never bred boa constrictors so cannot answer your other questions. There may already be answers in the boa breeding forum or in the ultimate boa care guide (RedTailBoas.com Main Menu - The Front Page).

            There is no DNA test.

IMO, the snakes are Kahl albino. For two reasons--you were told they were and Kahl is the more common (and therefore less expensive) type of albino.

Impossible to say. Island forms are likely to be breedable at less than 4 feet long. Mainlanders may need to be 6 feet or more. Origin information is often lost during importation. My impression is that males can breed at around 3 years of age. Females in the 3-5 year old range. Others may have better information though.

This is the sort of question that would go well on the boa breeding forum.

BTW ,you don' have Red Tail Boas (BCC) , you have BCI's........ When it comes to Boas , it's mostly about their age - not size. Males do best to be at least 2 1/2 yrs. Females should be at LEAST 3 1/2 yrs .
