How often should a 3' 7" boa shed. I've had him (Brutis) for 2 months. he was in the blue when I got him, then he shed again a month later. It's been a months since, and it looks like he is going to again. I know that babies shed alot, but I thought the shedding slowed down when they were this big. I don't know how old he is, does anyone have a guess by his size. I'm guessing 1 to 1 1/2 years. Also how much lenght does a snake this size gain per shed? Last time he grew 2 1/2 inches.

    Hi Dan.Greg,

    Welcome to the forums..

Boas normally do slow down with the shedding as they get bigger, but its no unusal for boas in growth spurts shedding more often. Just a growning baby.. Boa's mainly shed for three reasons. They out grow their old skin, they wear out thier skin, or they do it to heal their skin.

Sounds like a healthy baby to me..

    Good luck with him
    Steve

How long did It take for Delilah to get that big? I'm hoping Brutis get to 10 feet, with the way he is growing I don't think it will be as long as I thought it would be.

8)Dan.Greg, i dont know how old she is because the girl that had her was in a hurry to sell her as Delilah was left in a empty apartment and the girl wasnt living there no more, i told her i would take the boa as a adoption rescue and she came home with me.. She was kept with no water and had only dirt for the floor bedding. The girl was only feeding her one large rat every once in awhile.. If she had been fed right she would be bigger, i have only had her for few months and when she came home she was just under 7ft. Because shes being well cared for and eatting right shes growing at a alarmin rate.. I think she will hit the 10ft mark if not bigger by next yr this time. Steve, she could very well be one of those giant boas, i think shes only about 3 yrs old, i could be wrong.. Shes very heavey and very thick, she has a big head to.. Other than that this girl tells ya when shes hungry she comes to the front of the glass and stares at ya like wheres my food.. Shes due to eat again tomarrow, this time a 8 pound rabbit.. Shes moms endless pit.. LOL!!!!!! Steve could be something in that vita spray,, better get spraying all your snakes... ;D

Got any pics of her? I'll tell ya what. if I ever make it up your way I will get some killer shots of her for you.. I love big boas.

Now considering she was is cruddy conditions before you got her, how is her temperment?

Rabbits, that can add up fast in money. I know they get get 12 bucks here for large rabbits. That is one thing i don't breed. May have to one day.

As for the vita spray. You sold me on it. I know it suggests every day, but I am gonna do a few times a week to start.. Love that soft skin..

s35.gif Wholy cow, 12 bucks for a rabbit.. ouch ouch ouch.. Im only paying like $2.50 for a 5 to 8 pounder.. theres lots of rabbitries around here that raise them for meet and ya can get um pretty cheap if ya get more than say 2 or 3 at a time, theres also a guy RatMan he is the one i have gottin a lot from to he lives about 25 min from me he has them in all sizes.. $5.00 bucks was the highest ive ever herd um go for here.. Her temperment is the best anyone could ask for.. shes the sweetest boa ive ever had, just lays around , checks things out and never ever has bittin or gottin in strike pose. Yup i only spray mine few times week to with the vita spray.. durring sheding more often.. Makes that skin feel as smoooooooth as a babies butt... J/K.. ;D Here ya go, look at the size of her head, and thats her tail shes restin her head on, look at the bulk of her.. I need to take a pic with a messuring tape next to her or a person laying down next to her for size referance..

shes a real beauty. that the best color I've seen on a mature redtail. It to bad that some people can't take care of thier responsibilities. But she is in good hands now

                      Re:Shedding

On the shedding subject, I think it is right on target for a boa to shed once a month through the first couple of years, and then start to stretch that time out over the next few years.. At least with a standard steady feeding schedule.

Some adult boas may only shed once every 3 months. Really depends on feeding amounts and schedule..

Then breeding really shakes things up. I have seen boas that have been seperated both shed, and then get placed together for breeding purposes and both go immediately into a shed cycle again...
