    Trevor,

That is fully normal. I have 2 that do that, and two other that are always hanging out.. Just the nature of that snake.. Nothing at all to worry about..

My ball python actually does that now. I use cypress mulch and he just goes right to the bottom.

I don't recommend cypress mulch. I use the aspen as well and yes that stuff gets on the floor, but I'm not telling my babies they aren't going to be having fun burrowing anymore.

Please lose the cypress mulch. Not good. It breeds mites. I use the aspen as well and yes that stuff gets on the floor, but I'm not telling my babies they aren't going to be having fun burrowing anymore.
I baked it before using it. I baked it at 450 for like ten minutes. I doubt any mites would have survived.

              Re: barring in bedding

The mulch itself attracts the mites. They don't actually have to be there when put in the enclosure. Read my alert on mites in the health section.

T.C. I have to disagree with you here. I myself use cypress mulch and would recommend it to anyone. I also know a whole lot of people and even breeders who swear by it. I use to use aspen and it can get messy. Cypress mulch is cheap, holds humidity, and does not rot or mold. It's ups beat the others. I am quite interesting how cypress mulch attracts mites though, as I have not heard a single case related to such. onesweetguy, you should bake it at least around thirty minutes.

yea i use cypress mulch also cause its cheap and you can buy in huge bags. holds the humidity very well also. i treat all my cages once a month with provent-a-mite. never had any probs with mites.

                    Re:barring in bedding

I also have been using cypress mulch for several months now...

Although any wood type substrate would be a great place for breeding of mites, it is important that we take the preventative measures to stop mites BEFORE they can breed and multiply.

I have been using provent a mite for a long time now, and although I have not seen a mite in years, I still do the preventative treatments.

                      Trevor,

I looked for an old image of one of my snake burried, and couldn't find it. So I snapped one off an hour ago of my female Surinam. She dig's off and on, the male never does. Its normal..

                          Re:barring in bedding

The cypress mulch works great , but , I started using the coconut fiber type . I haven't had any problems at all with this stuff . I like it because it comes in a compressed brick that is easy to store . My brazilian rainbows love it . It keeps their humidity way up like 70-80% , and I hardly ever see them when they are not burried in it at least partially. And They always shed great with it.
                          Later on,
                          Dan
