  • UTH,heating,thermo's,etc...

Iam sure that this is made but I cant seem to find it. Is there a UTH that comes w/ a built in thermostat that has temps displayed? I seen topics that talk about products that you have to add thermostats (i have no clue on wiring elec stuff s3.gif). I have a zoo-med UTH that iam using now. I was wanting to get a UTH that has that so I don’t have to worry about the temps getting crazy and burning the snake. If yall have links or know of a place I could get these it would help me a great deal when I get my new boas. Or if there not made is it best to place the thermometer
At the floor level and above the floor? I was thinking about placing something like cardboard on the bottom of the tank so that my new snakes won’t get burned, and using zoo-med bark on top of the cardboard. Iam toying w/ my cage (40gal long glass tank)Temps and trying to figure out a way to keep the temps the same all year round. but not having much luck w/ this.
    Thanks for yalls help.

    Hey Gun Lover,

Well I am not sure if they make one as you described. Never heard of one, but these is an easy fix for you if you don't want to do any wiring.. Just click on this link and it will take you to a cheap, but good heat control device that all you will have to do, is plug your UTH into it and then plug the controller into your wall outlet.. Real simple..

    Hope this helps..

          Hi,
You are addressing a very serious problem that is often overlooked by reptile keepers , the run away UTH.
I use that thermostat on all my cages, I find I need to place the sensor for the thermostat about 1in from the heat source on the back of the cage. WHy ? if it touches the heat source it will shut off instantly.
here's a post I did on heating cages a long time ago , the picture are messed up I lost many I had at another forum.
          hope this helps, :P
ps I bought a thermometer gun at radio-shack that measures temps where you point it the temp gradients are huge in a cage.

            Gun Lover,

I too was having some problems with my UTH until I changed my set up. I now have my UTH running through a Zoo Med Reptitemp 500R thermostat. It has two plug ins available, so you can connect an UTH and a basking fixture if you want. I only have my UTH running through it, I use my dome fixture with a CHE in it instead of a basking light, this is plugged into a timer so that it kicks on during the morning and shuts off in the early evening. Here is one link where the thermostat is available. I know there are cheaper ones out there, but this one allows for expansion later on down the road if necessary with it's two plugs as opposed to the one plug most other thermostats have. I also use the ACU-RITE triple digital thermometer and humidity gauge that you can find at Wal-Mart for $14.98, it was a life saver! I found that my cheap analog dial gauges were more than 20% incorrect!! Good luck man.

                  Hey Gun Lover,

The ones that were mentioned by Fonzy are located in Wal-Mart in the lighting section. They are made by Precision Instruments (Acu-Rite). Just note. The two I have. The temps appear to be right on the money, where the Humidity on them are way off.. Could just be the ones I got. Just always double check and temp and humidity device to be safe...

Did you ask about them? They are located in the hardware department behind the paint here. I'm sure every Walmart varies from the others. Ask a few associates and see if they can help.
