How old??

Does anyone know around how old a 15" male red tail would be? Also, how long after they are born can they be sold? :-/

Hello Hellcat and welcome to the forums..

Normal Red tail boas are normally 12-18 inches when born. So you know at least its a baby..

Snakes can be sold the day they hatch, although I and most good breeders wouldn't consider a sale until the baby has eaten and shed 1-2 times.

This is a common question among those who acquire a neonate and don't know their birth date. Without knowing the exact date, you can guess that it is between one or two months old. Again, this is just a guess. Where did you get it, can you contact either the person you got it from or the breeder if it is not the same person. I know this isn't much help, but it is the best we can do. Unless there is a journal that was kept for your snake from when it was born, you are pretty much just guessing, but it will be pretty close!

Just like sclark said, any good breeder will wait until the snake as eaten and shed at least once before they sell it.

Ok, so he's around 2-3 months I'm guessing. I know he had eaten at least once before he was purchased. Thank you all for your help!

Thanks very much....we're very happy with him. Just got done watching him eat...he struck faster then the last time I think!
And he used his cave for the first time to sit in and digest....it's cute...only his little head is peekin out. ;D

Definatlely a beautiful baby... Normal red tail babies will range 18-22 inches at birth....

As far as how soon to sell, I wait until babies have eaten thawed rodents 4 times without hesitation. And If I have to deviate from thawed in order to get a feeding response, I will also wait until they eaten thawed 4 times.. I think this is the most important attribute before selling any babies...

Clay, I tried following the directions you gave for getting our pictures back up, but it did not work for me. So I just re-attached it as if I was posting it for the first time and that seemed to work. Can I use this method to get the rest of my pics back up too?

lol.. i think the same way to. kinda compared to kids. which iam sure every 1 agress that the snakes are our kids ;D
