  • Bci - Bcc

Ok, I am sorry to bring up a question that has probably been covered many times in the depths of this forum, but I couldnt seem to find one particular group of posts that answered my questions exactly...

How does one tell, indefinately, the difference between a BCI and BCC?
And (sorry if this sounds stupid) but, are Surinams and Guyanans considered something else?

    -thanks in advance

    Re:Bci - Bcc

    Both are Bcc's...
And bcc and bci have a certain scale count...
I don't know them right off the top of my head....
Sombody will be able too... If you look in the morph section there is a couple threds that have the info posted...

      BCI - Imperator
      Less than 253 ventral scales
      Midbody scale count 55-79
21 or more dorsal blotches (Avg 22 to 30)

      BCC - Constrictor
      234 to 250 ventral scales
      Midbody scale count 89-95
Less than 20 dorsal blotches (Avg. 15 to 20)

This may confuse some people but because of these specification some people believe that the Colombian boa constrictor falls into the BCC category. Jeff Ronne is one of these.
      Well there it is...

        Re:Bci - Bcc

        Hi Chambers,

Red covered most of the info on telling exactly how to tell..

Its hard no adays to be 100% sure unless you are getting from an honest breeder. That is why it took so long for me to get my Surinams.. Last thing I want to do is spend 800 on a set of Surinams and find out the blood line is not pure.. Surinams and Guyanas are both BCC's.. One way I can normally tell is the shape of their heads.. BCC's have a tendency to have a more narrow face structure, where as the Col BCI is thicker and wider.. BCC's like Surinams and Guyanas also should have a much redder more intense tail..

        Hope that helped..

Oh ya' one last thing... just in case you are wrestling with your snake trying to count the scales... just count them on a shed.... Much easyer... It took like three years for sombody to suggest that to me.... I did it the hard way though... oh well guess I learned..
