Do red tails need a vitamin d light. I have been told and i believe that they get all the nutrients they need from their diet Just a questions. How about king snakes? would anybody know if they require lighting? I realize this is primarily a boa site so please no sarcasm. thank you

Nope neither do... There really are few snakes that need it... Those lights are for lizards really...

This is another question that you will get many answers too. Personally i do not feel any snakes need a vitamin d light to remain healthy in captivity. However some people and books will tell you that they do. Like red has already stated those kind of lights are really needed for lizards like iguanas for example.

        Hi Mooze,

It has been said above, just agree. The only snake that I am aware of that can benifit from a UVB light is the simple garter. Mainly because they have a super high metabolization (sp) and they don't absorb certain vitamins that take longer two absorb. With most snakes, kings included they retain their food long enought to absorb all the available vitamins and get all they need...

        Hope that helps..
