  • Misting

When i mist my snake i usually mist it all over the tank. I mist it every once in a while.

Would it be better if i just mist it on one side (the side w/o the hideout)?

Even thought i mist once in a while will my RTB get skin rot(or scale rot, whatever it's called)?

    Hey R2tro,

To give you the right answer, need more info.. Type of cage or glass tank, temp on the hotsiode, temp on the cool side, ambiant temp.. That would help getting you the right info..

It would be better to be a little more specific like the others said. However, depending on the situation, you may or may not need to mist the cage. I will go through some of the basics. Depending on the humidity, you may need to mist the cage once or twice daily. It's also not a bad idea to mist the cage once or twice daily during the shed process. Your snake is unlikely to scale rot from such. This usually results from very humid and moist conditions.

The key when misting is to not allow for a damp wet substrate. This is what will cause scale rot for your boa. Like the others have stated some more info about your cage and cage conditions is needed for us to determine just how much you should be misting your cage.

My enclosure is a water bowl on the left and a hide out on the right. Also a stick in the middle. My substrate is newspaper. I don't know the correct temperature on each side, but in the middle it's 82. I have a 20 gallon long. the heat lamp is on the side of the water bowl which is 100w.

            Does this help?

              Re:Misting

Well, you want the warm side temperatures to be 86-88 and around 82 on the cool side. I would recommend a digital thermometer to monitor the temperatures. You can get a seperate or the humidity combo to monitor the humidity. This is very important. There is no real way of knowing whether you to to increase the humidity until knowing what the humidity in the cage is. The heat source over the water bowl will help increase the humidity as it speeds up the evaporation process, but you should also add a water bowl to the cool side as all snakes do not like to drink hot water.

Xz has a good point about the water dish...but to answer ya question.. unless your temps drop down low and you leave a wett substrate you shouldn't have to worry about rot aslong as the temps are correct..
