  • Provent-a-mite suggestions

My girl is experiencing a minor mite problem right now so I got some Provent-a-mite to keep it from becoming a larger one. Shes a 10 month old Columbian Boa. Right now she is in a 60 gal. glass terrerium. The instructions seem easy enough, but before I use it. Are there any suggestions from anyone who has used it, that aren't printed on the label? Myself, I use artifical carpet as her substrate. Its easy to clean. I keep a few pieces so all I have to do is swap them out every so often. My plan was to spray a piece and let it dry and air out for a few hours then swap it with the current one. Will this be good enough to work, or should I still spray the whole inside of her enclosure? And should I still spray her log hide? Also, since I do use artifical carpet I feed her in her enclosure. Will there been any risk of contaminating her food if I still lay her meal on the carpet? Thank you. 8)

;D What I would do is run all your carpets through the Laundry. As for the spraying. Spray down the whole enclosure and plants hides etc.(remove water dish before you spray) Make sure you take your Boa out first ..lol . You can put your Baby in a Sanke Bag (pillowcase)for the 2 hour's that you have to wait before it is safe for your baby to go back in the cage. Or you can just play with her either or. Good Luck with the Mite problem. Your already heading in the right direction with the purchase of provent-a-mite.

      HI,
It would be best to wash the carpet as suggested and the treat the entire cage ( except the water dish), and use newspaper for a couple months this will break the cycle and you may like the paper so much you'll stay with it. Many re-cycled items can carry over bacteria and other things that are a bit smelly. Newspaper acts like a wick when damp and will spread the moisture outward preventing wet spots. Its super when soiled with urates, you roll it up wipe down the cage and drop in the clean.. Doug
snif the carpet after a through cleaning ,if it stil smells funky its got bacteria too...

Provent-A-Mite works great. I treat every cage in thge house and in the rescue with it reguardless. If you have one or 50,000 mites, I would suggest taking the snake out, put him in the feed tank and feed him. if he is not due to eat, give him an hour soak.. While you snake is away, in a different room, do a 1:6 bleach mix. Scrun the tank down, every crack and cravice.. with the bleach. Then ruinse it down with hot water.. Dry the tank out and let it fully dry.. Wash the hides and branches and plants down with the bleach mix and rinse them down with warm water.. Then when the tank it dry, put new bedding down, preferably newspaper if you have any mites.. Spray the bedding down as directed on the provent-a-mite.. Let the cage air for 2 hours.. put the fresh water back in with the branches, hides, etc.. Then put the snake back in. The snake will be protected for 30 days and that should kill the little buggers (mites..).. Good luck..

          Hope that helps..
