  • Delilah Off Feed..

:-\ ??? Ok Delilah went off feed, whats up with that... since i got her over 7 months now she has been eatting like a real pig and growing like a super weed, now all of a sudden shes off feed.. Could it be the cooler temps here as the weather has been on the cool side and its been dark and fluncky for a week, or could it be shes slowing down now from all the make up time shes had from the poor care that she had befour i got her?? Im not overly concernd as she has trumendous amount of weight on her and is in excellent health to boot.. Could she be thinking its time for a boyfriend?? Gona try her on super larg rats again in few days and see what happens.. Shes really active!! Any input anyone?? I know im a over worried mom... LOL!!!

        HI,
AS boa's age they tend to want to slow down a bit on feeding its like they know they are gaining weight to fast.
check clay's feeding scheduals, and as another thought you should check ambients in the cage maybe something isn't working as well as it did in the summer, my reptile room 80-82 in summer and drops off to 70-74 in the winter. And this requires close monitor of the thermostat and heat.

There are some that do detect seasonal changes (or barometric shifts) and some do go off feed as a result of this. This happens a lot during breeding introduction and courting. A lot of females will take themselves off feed.

Other than that, just try again next feeding time.

Yeah, Ursula did that once too. To boot it was during the time the Dieter(my ball) was not eating at all. It took two feeds for her to eat again. But with Ursula, I think that it's like she knew that she was getting way too big for her cage and needed to slow down. Now she eats like a hog!!! Still in the same cage, but I did some rearranging to allow her a bit more room. Like every one else said, just wait till next feeding. She'll eat, trust me. But I do think it does have something to do with the weather.

              Hey cuda,

Like was said, I wouldn't worry much at all right now. There are so many possible factors what can cause a snake to go off feed. She has enough size where I wouldn't get too worried until it hit the 2 month mark. Like mentioned, she could be feeling the effects of of growing too fast and may feel the need to back off for a little. I would not even attempt another feed until her next scheduled time. And I would also double check her temps to make sure (like someone mentioned) that your heaters are still working right..

Keep us updated to her next feed..

8)Thanks everyone, im just a worry wart sometimes.. LOL!!! :-[ Anyways il see what she does this weekend, its been almost 14 days. Im kinda thinkin it had something to do with the cooler weather and it being so icky outside, like i said shes been way active, almost like shes lookin for a guy friend...her cage temps and all are the same as befour nothing changed... we did have some really low barometric readings for awhile then it shifted real high for few days. Now that its nice out again she seems to be back to her lazy self today. Does anyone else notice that when we have a full moon to that there critters get really active?? This is another thing i have noticed every time we have a full moon, all my critters get super active....

you know guys i never though about the fact that if they grow too fast the will go off feed (sort of) but rusty has been growing aweful fast and the small rats are kinda big i was thinking maybe he was getting enough food off that rat that he didnt need food every 7 days but id never guess his growing would be a factor too i learn more every day!!!!

ya know, mary has been growing like a weed and she will take a rat at every feed schedule but then again, I don't think my girl is as old as yours cuda. And yea red, i've noticed recentally she hasen't been as active but we've ben getting really wierd weather for the past few days. It got a little colder in the mornings and at night and she just sits in her hide, dosen't come out. I wouldn't worry cuda, my friend Franks big boas have gone 3 weeks to a month without eating and they eat the same size rats, super huge. Keep us posted, I know she'll be fine, I worry too much about my girl sometimes too. That just shows how much you love her!!!

Yeah activity is a big factor in more feedings. That is why I have an approx feed schedule, but with adult snakes, I let activity dictate feeding. When say Midnight is real active for a few days in a row I get her food ready...

8)Well good news is Delilah ate while one of our own members was here this past weekend.. Evil was here and i thru 2 jumbo rats in with her and down the hatch they went.. Atleast shes eatting again, next feeding back to colossal rats and then down the line back to rabbits once more... I really think it had something to do with the nasty weather and cooler temps.. now its been really nice out and warmer plus much sunnier...
