Hey guys/girls....good people!!! Hope all is well out here in the herp comm...LOL Anyway my question is....How long after the eyes turn blue do the snakes actually shed. I have a 20-22 in baby and it (sorry don't know the sex yet) ate on Friday evening and I notice the following day that the eyse were blue. I have read about soaking misting etc. during this period as well as the possibility of it being aggressive. So i would like to soak the snake soon but just don't want to do the wrong things please advice. And as usual thx you guys for all of your help. Peace JR

    Re:shedding

The eyes will clear up and your snake should shed. Most usually shed during the first week after the eyes have cleared. Soaking is not a bad idea as this will aide in the shedding process. Now is a good time to increase the humidity around 10%. You can also mist the cage once or twice a day.

        Re:shedding

Hello and welcome to the forums dadude.....JR.......

Xzylum pretty much covered it except I usually do not soak my snakes while in shed only because I don't want to handle them while their shedding. They just seem so uncompfortable while in the shed process. Misting or placing a damp towel over the enclosure during shed helps a whole lot. (Assuming you have a screen top like all of mine.) Also you can place the water dish on the hot side of the cage to create higher humidity during shed.

My snakes also shed about a week after the eyes clear. Usually 3-4 days. Great luck, hope everything goes well.

          Re:shedding

Hello all. Shedding - My snak's eyes glazed for 2 days and then it shed in a matter of 3 hours. I thought that was kind of fast. Any comments about the time it should take? The snake is almost 8 months, 26.5 inches long and about the size of a half dollar in diameter.

          Thanks

            Re:shedding

Sounds normal to me........ Once my snakes start shedding it takes about an hour for them to get it off.

Cool. Thanks Beth. I am a newbie and don't want anything to happen to my little one. Have become really attached to it and it seems to respond really well to me. Again, thanks.

                Re:shedding

mylesd, those is really not exact way to know when a snake will shed. It all varies from time to time. I've seen some go three weeks after their eyes have cleared before they have shed.

                  Re:shedding

Thanks Steve, I was going to ask what the longest period of time was that you've seen past after the snakes' eyes have cleared up because it has been a full week now and my snake hasn't shed just yet. Also is it cool to touch/handle them once the eyse have cleared up. Don't want to let to much time pass in between handles..ya know. It has been about a week since I have handled it. Once again thx for your help!!!!

                        Re:shedding

Xzylum is right, the time it takes your boa to shed after its eyes clear up from being slouded varies. Some do it the nest day, some weeks after. Mine usually sheds about 4-5 days after her eyes clear up. Also,... Welcome to the forums!!! ;D 8)

Hey Da Dude, you pulled a Cuto's from me..LOL... Jk'ing.. Xzylum is right..

Mine all go different.. The Surinams normally shed 6-8 days after the blue eyes. Midnight is about 7 days, Tear is 6 days, Twister is 7 days, Baby is about 7-8, etc, etc... I always figure about a week,.,

                            Re:shedding

Personally, I wouldn't handle my snakes during the shed process. This can be somewhat stressful. The new skin will also be sensitive when they shed. I usually wait at least 24 hours after shed before handling.
