  • Boa ownership regulations suck!!

My renewal permit to keep my boa came in the mail yesterday. Every year I have to send animal regulations a check for $70. On top of that they send someone to my house to check how I house the boa and if the cage has locks so the boa can't escape. All this just because 6 years ago, a large boa escaped to the neighbors yard and ate their dog. For one idiot everyone else suffers.

cwm24.gif wow, that does suck and thats a real shame , but thats all it really takes is for someones snakes to get loose and then everyone starts freakin out.. Sorry to here that!!! I live in the upper part of Mich. and i dont need no permit here but i have a dealers permit, big game permit and pet shop liscence as i deal with getting large exotics for people around here Mich. only... But the good thing is you get to keep your boa..

I forgot to mention you also have to tell your neighbors if you own a boa or python. The last thing I need is for my neighbors to be afraid to get near my house.

Wow that is some intense regulation of large boids! :P But in the long run it is really a good idea to prevent morons who cause incedents like this from repeating or initiating more mistakes. Don't have any regulations around here but a friend of mine who breeds ball pythons interviews each person indepthly who is interested in aquiring one just to prevent problems associated with inexperinced or ignorant people owning snakes. For example there was a person up here that owned a ball and thought he could feed it vegitables so the snake did not eat for a year. It was later rescued but will never grow beyond two feet. Another guy bought a box turle as a chew toy for his rotti , thank god it was rescued too but it is badly scared.

That's a real shame that you need a permit to keep a boa, whom are pretty harmless for the most part, when there are a lot more incidents with pitbulls and rottweillers than there ever will be with boas and pythons. Those are the ones that should require permits in my opinion.

                  Hi,
The really scarry part is that cities can pass laws making virtually  illegal to own any exotic without any public vote its just take a resolution and the it takes thirty seconds vote and wham its a law,, keep a close eye on your city government Ive seen them change zones so they can absorb(steal someones property for a song) an example of city government in action ???, so please keep your pets in the house, dont' walk around with them in public. An please be sure they can't escape and hurt somone elses pets. :'(

I think 29 palms is in riverside county. You can visit their website, look under animal control.

About the permit on pitbulls. I own a Boa and Pitbull. The people who have mean pits made them that way. This forum gives facts about Boas, get the facts on pits before you judge them!

Where I live you cant own a snake over a certain lenght. So what they dont know wont hurt me.
