  • first time aggression

I have a 3 month old red tail, she is approx. 21 inches long and i've had her for about 1 and 1/2 months. I handle her almost every day except for 2 days after she eats. Well today for the first time she bit me, she has never shown any aggression what so ever, i'm confused why would she do this now?

    Re: first time aggression

Are her eye's in "blue"? She may be getting ready to shed. Also she may have just been startled, or possible hungry and just saw the warmth of your hand as possible food. There are any number of reason why she may have bit you. But she is the only one who knows the real reason, and unfortunately snakes can't talk. LOL!! If she starts doing it too often, then there may be something to worry about. But an occasional strike isn't anything to worry about, IMO. Just continue to handle her as you are. Well, maybe not for a couple of days to let her calm down. Also, remember, DO NOT handle her after she has just gotten done eating or when she is getting ready to shed, especially when her eyes are in "blue". Just in case you're not familiar with that term, in "blue" means when her eyes are clouded over and are almost a blue color. It indicates that she is preparing to shed.
