  • [General Care] Trouble putting my snake back.

Ive had my Boa for about 2 years now. He loves being out but hates to go back home. He will not release and becomes aggressive when its time to go back. This behavior has been ongoing over the past few months and Im not sure what to do. The temp/humidity is all set etc. He just doesnt ever want to go back home. Its wierd.

Any tips on getting him to release? This is getting stressfull and its taking the fun away and making me less inclined to take him out.

One of mine is the same way. When I try to put him back, he gets a death grip on my wrist and usually finds a way to get his head poked back out before I can get him off my arm. Before you put him back, make sure he isn't wrapped around you, just support him with both hands and quickly set him down. That's how I do it now to avoid a wrestling match.

Mine has the death grip to but the he wedges himself on the edge of the enclosure and tries to wrap aroung cord and in the process of me untangling him he will strike. He is getting big to and getting bigger so Im concerned for the future....

I usually guide mine by his head with an open palm into the cage so he doesn't keep popping up and let him rest on the bottem of the cage and he normally starts to slither away.
If that doesnt work, try injecting him with anesthesia. OMG Im joking

Sometimes I can get away with holding my bigger girl just outside her door and she will slowly crawl in by herself. Usually its a fight.

Yup. Perfectly normal. Would you want to go back into a box?

I'm going through this with both of my adult boas, my solution is going to be much larger enclosures for both of them but I'm wondering, could a larger enclosure make my male more territorial?

Hey I don't have the problem but an idea that comes into my mind is that once you get them started into the tank you could squirt water from a water bottle on their tail. I know when I mist or spray with vitamin spray it'll get them moving pretty quickly, it could work.

do you have the sliding doors or the drop down doors? i havent had any probs getting my animals back in their cages once i put them in a cage that has the sliding glass doors. i just get their head and neck in, the i close the doors just enough to where only their body will fit in, then sometimes ill tickle their tail to get them moving faster if they are a stubborn one. they cant find their way back out befoore their bodies are in and i shut the door all the way lol.

ya sometimes this happens to me and i just palm them and set them down instead of letting them coil before we go back in the room

I don't know your setup so I wouldn't know the best way to do this but it would help to understand what's going on. It isn't that your snake likes to be held or doesn't like to be in it's enclosure. It doesn't like to be PUT there, or anywhere for that matter. You have to make it appear (to the snake) that the easiest and most logical escape route is back into their enclosure.
