  • [Housing] starting a "experiement" you could say lol

so i have about a 3 1/2 4ft guyana x columbian female that is in a 40 gal that is ALWAYS in her hide (she comes out very rarely i might add to eat but just pokes her head out eats the rat and goes back) maybe once a weeek if that she stroles around the cage on her logs. I had to take the hide out to clean it because she pooped and got it stuck on the sides(yes she poops and urinates while coiled up in her hide) so i took the hide out to clean it and have decied not put it back to see what she would do ..... any ideas what im in for, just took the hide out today.

my bets are she goes behind the water dish and stays, coils in a corner and stays, or finds a place that is cool and dark and pitches camp.

Not sure what your in for. She could get stressed by feeling exposed. I don't use any hides for any of my snaked but they are all in rack systems or boaphiles and there is no need for them in those kind of enclosures. Glass tanks are a completely different story they tend to feel too exposed.

I'd put the hide back. She obviously likes it and I'm sure it makes her feel secure that is why. If she doesn't have that she'll get stressed out and probably become defensive. I know it stinks you can't see her and she doesn't come out to play but snakes are solitary animals and like to be hidden. I'd put it back in tonight.
