  • [Behavior] Anyone else have a boa who refuses to use their hide?

Eddy, my new DH Sunglow, refuses to use his hide. He's always out in the open. The closest he's come to getting in the hide is curling up next to it and looping the last inch of his tail in it. I don't think I've ever met a boa who didn't want to use their hide.

    Anyone else ever experience this?

Maybe he doesn't like the temperature where it is. Is it on the hot or warm side and what is the temp?

I have two hides - one on each end. Mine loves them - goes to the hot hide when digesting, then moves to the cool hide after a day or so. Every now and them I'll find him behind one of them or buried in the aspen, but he always likes to hide.

    He's a Guyana BCC.

I have one boa that won't use a hide at all. I was using a shoebox and he would flip it up on its side and use it to climb on, but never actually go in it. After awhile I just took it out because he kept going to the bathroom on it and moving it all over the cage but refused to use it.

All of mine refused to for the first day or so till they got a bit more comfortable. My girlfriends baby Nic recently jammed her head into a hole in hide and couldn't get back out, finally after some coaxing she was able to squeeze her head back through and I was able to remove it (after much hissing) She has been hide-less since because when my girlfriend went to put a new hide in her tank she struck a few times and hit the glass pretty hard. He may start to use it after a while but as long as the back and sides of the tank are covered he shouldn't need it, my big female will use a hide if I put one in (as a bathroom mostly) but she has a jungle background on the back and side so she doesn't need it or miss it, it seems.

Somehow it's good to know my DH Sunglow isn't alone in this.

Maybe after all of the activity and treatments are done with he'll check out the hide. ...Or maybe he'll just never use it.

It's on the cool side - temp is 85 degrees. I'll try moving it to the warm side to see if he tries it there... but I'm not geting my hopes up.

Theres alot of Boas that I own and have owned that refused hides of any sort. The ones that always hide are my Dumerils and Argentines.
