[General Care] Boa gets dark after eating

My boa is roughly 12-18 months old now and ever since i've had her i've noticed how she changes colors after eating. She eats every tuesday night. On wed and thur she is really dark, but the other 5 days of the week she is her normal tan color. the saddles don't change, just the lighter part of her.

Is this normal for columbian boas?

Boas and some other snakes will slightly change color after they have eaten. This allows them to attract more Heat from the sun or less as needed....

Not all boas can do this

ah thanks, i figured it was natural but i'm somewhat new to the boa community. I had 2 ball pythons growing up but sold them nearly 9 years ago.

I have my columbian boa and just got a neonate brazilian rainbow boa.. wow is she gorgeous too

As has been stated: It's normal. Boas, like other reptiles, will get darker after eating, when they are cooling down, and before a shed. I can tell when my boas are warm just by looking at them - their coloring gets much lighter. My Normal is in shed cycle and she's been dark for the past couple of days.

I've always sort or likened this darkening of color to humans getting goose bumps: it's a response to help retain body heat.
