i just recently got an 8 ft red tail... i want to build a bigger cage but i want to find out what would be best... more of an upright tank, or the shorter ones...and what dimiensions would be best. Also, the snake isn't in the best of health...i think he might have a litle mouth rot... besides the vet is there anything i could do? any help would be great... thanks!

    Hi!
In regard to your snake's health, try to post some pictures, that way people will see the problem more clearly and will be able to help you out until you can get to a good herp vet.

Is you snake a BCC or BCI? Once that info is know some one should be able to help with what size cage you are going to need?

        Re: cages

In partiular to the "tank" question : for a Boa you probably want more floor space and less height...

That said, I would not consider a "tank" (considering a tank been a mostly glass enclosure similar to fish tanks) as an appropiate enclosure when a Boa gets that size. It's going to have to be quite a big one, adding to cost of heating and maintaining humidity.

At around 4.5 to 5 feet, I moved Chica (BCI) to a custom made wood enclosure. She is MUCH much happier there... I think it is 6x2x2 in feet (the enclosure, not the snake...) :
