  • PLEASE HELP, HEALTH ISSUE

My new pastel boa just had her first meal under my care. I gave her 2 large pinky rats. For some reason she keeps going up to the side of the rubbermaid, smelling it, and then trying to bite the side of the enclosure. ??? What is wrong ??? The temps are correct, is she still hungry ??? Please give me some advice. I don't want her striking the plastic. cwm31.gif Is this a sign of a health related problem or does she just want another rat? Clay or Lori, please help. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

      Re: PLEASE HELP, HEALTH ISSUE

I quote : "first meal under my care".

      Question : First Boa??

After eating, she is probably in "feed mode". She smells the scent of the pinkies and strikes for more food. Not a problem.

Is she still hungry?? Not necesarily. SHe is just on feed mode : strike on anything that seems/smells like food. She should settle down in a little while.

If you post a full picture of her, specially after she just ate, it might be easier to judge if the two pinky rats are enough or not. Hard to tell from the info provided.

        Re: PLEASE HELP, HEALTH ISSUE

There was barely a lump after the first two, so I fed her another large pinky. She is 27 inches long and 7 months old. This is not my first boa. I just got her saturday at the reptile show. I let her settle down a couple of days before I fed her. None of my other boas have ever done this, that is why I was asking. Sudden behavioral changes usually mean the snake has some kind of illness (soaking in water=mites, stargazing=certain types of parasites etc.) and I wanted to make sure she wasn't sick. I open the lid to pet her, and she got in an S and started flicking her tongue out every 2 seconds, so now I know she is still in feeding mode. Thanks for the info. I posted several pics of her in the morph forum. One of them was a full-body pic, so you can see her size there.

          Re: PLEASE HELP, HEALTH ISSUE

          HI,
SOunds like a good feeder, I would check out the care sheets and see if your feeding a large enough food item.
They grow so fast and can handle a little larger than their largest middle section.
          ..
