Hey everyone, its me the red tail newb guy. Anyways, u guys have been a great help to me in learning about my boa constrictor. Besides that I need to get him a bigger cage, me and my snake have adjusted with each other pretty good. I think Im keeping him up pretty good besides that I need a bigger cage with a hide and some other things. Im starting to learn his actions and reactions. I just wanted to say thanks to lori and doug and all others who have helped me with my first snake!
P.S. one week from today ( last thursday ) I fed him what the pet store labels as a small rat...it was the first time I got him to eat since having him for almost a month and boy was it on, rat didnt even get to recover from being dropped in the cage...well....ive got his body motions down to where I can pen point when hes hungry or not. Well he was acting suspicious and moving around a lot again today and yesterday just like he was doing the first time I got him to eat so I went and got him another rat hoping my suspicions where correct, and they were. He ate the rat within minutes of putting him in the cage. Which brings me to my next question. My snakes prolly about 3 and 1/2 foot long so the first rat I ever bought him was a medium sized rat, well he never was hungry or didnt want to eat the medium so fearing that the rat was too big I took him back and got a small one which he ate within a weeks time from purchase. Well that was last thursday and today when picking up his second meal I decided to go with another small not wanting to push my luck with his eating. The only thing is I dont know if Im getting the right size rat or if he needs bigger one cause it seems as if the small rats barely phaze him and he still kind of stalkingly hobbles around his cage afterwards as if hes looking for something else and he gets the rat all the way down fairly easily. Currently hes averaging a 2.99$ rat a week which is 4 small rats a month. I thought of moving him up to bigger rat after his next shed but thought Id consult you guys first. So from what ive said, does it seem like Im over feeding him by feeding once a week, or am I feeding just right, is he hungry more frequently cause the rats small or do I need to attempt a bigger rat on a every other week basis. Keep in mind last weeks meal was his first in a 3 week to a month time period. Thanks.
