  • Killing Rats . .  ick

I know this has probably been discussed. . . But I felt like an adding another post to my # :O

    Seriously tho . . .

Is there an "easy" way to kill things to feed?????? My local pet shop won't do because of a legal problem a few years ago. . . Even tho, now it is "ok" for them to do for "feeders", he said they are staying away from the issue. . .

So, now, what is an easy to kill them?? I only have 1 at the moment, so internet purchases really isn't "ideal" for me since I would need to pay so much in postage. . . If I had a bigger freezer space, i would buy a bulk amount, but that too is limited unfor.

Please help me guys!! :} (& gals!)

    I really want to be feeding him F/T . . . He is good sized & will be eating good sized rats & I'd rather not take a chance :{
    Thanks!!

I think sombody correct me if I am wrong... But If you put them in a bucket with a piece of dry ice and a lil' water I think that they just fall asleep and die... then all you have to do is freeze them. I also may be wrong about this to but I think that this is the way the people a cajun mice and stuff like that kill there rat's..
    I hope I could help...

that is a good way, just make sure you put like a wire cage over the dry ice so the rats dont get burned by it.

Once again this is what I heard.....For the dry ice thing i think alot of pharmecys carry dry ice. second i was talking to my local pet store the other day and i asked them "how do you kill your rats" they said they just throw them in the freezer even the big one's and they die. (I also heard thats the most humane way to kill a snake cuz there body just slows down and they go to sleep). I never tried it but they said it works with the ratts but I can't see the Big ones dying so easy??? The other way is get a tupperware container put some moth balls in it and the live rodent and close the lid. theres other ways I heard of to but a little more gotesque. I figurre if I don't kill the rat it would get killed anyways or do harm to my snake.

          P.S. I don't kill rats I buy them frozen

Unfotunately, the place by me doesn't kill rats anymore due to a lawsuit. . . And I have put baby rats in the freezer to die. . However, I don't want to try putting older rats in the freezer that could get out & eat something! LOL!!!
            Thanks,

putting them in the freezer works but is not quick or painless in my opinion. I only did it once because it took way too long. I wouldn't use mothballs because I wouldn'd feed mothballs to my snake so why risk it. I am suprised your store doesn't buy bulk frozen? Maybe suggest it? Good luck either way.

Just give them a good old wack on sometheing hard before you feed to your snake or freeze them after you wack them.

I shoot mine with a 12 gauge shotgun, works pretty good.

Just grab them by the tail and just throw them on the floor that is all you have to do. all I do is grab the rat by the tail and whip against the concrete and feed that is it not hard at all lmao

                      Re:Killing Rats . . ick

i think sclark posted it some where, but the way i do it is to take a peise of wooden dowl about a foot long and hold the feeders by the tail and give them 1 nice wack to the back of the head right behind the ears..not to hard so you'll get blood everywhere but a good wack will take care of it and to will shack for about a min.but thats just nerves.so if you got a small bucket wack it and toss it in the bucket..its ok to see a little blood out of the ear or the nose..its just like you or me of theres to much pressure in the skull hey its got to go somewhere..lol....but i hope this helped you.....tim....

Ok for those of you who don't think throwing them in the freezer hurts them. Have you ever been so cold it hurts? Now, Imagine that times like a thousand, cuz they go until they die. Ya, dont you think itll hurt now? I think the best way to kill the rat is the dry ice but then you have to leave it alone for a week or two to get the Co2 out.
